Either way we are not winning so we should pursue a strategy that's best for the team's future, which is tanking. Les should know, this is a simple game of trade-off between current and future benefit, and $$$.
I always find your posts insightful whether I agree or not. I appreciate your seeing where I was coming from at least posing the question here...knew I'd catch flak for it. I just can't help but think, in this of seemingly perfect opportunities to do so, that we are in fact.....tanking.
A move like that would be idiotic. How many years would you expect to be tanking for? Would the theory be that you bring in a ****ty coach, tank for a year and draft a (hopefully) superstar? What then? After you get your "superstar", do you immediately fire your ****ty coach? Not gonna happen. McHale's here for 4 years, minimum. The Rockets are not going to bring in a coach to tank for one season and then keep him for another 3 years just because. This is an implausible scenario.
Yeah, do not agree w/ that poster's assessment. I'm not saying that we're tanking based on the McHale hire alone. That would be disgustingly unprofessional and I can't see any team, let alone, any coach going along with such a plan. But, is it possible that maybe, just maybe, we're forgoing this BS shortened season that JUST SO HAPPENS to be ending in a wonderful draft class with a slightly concerted effort to play the younuns to maybe, just maybe not WIN so much? Am I THAT wrong for considering such a thing...even after one game? For the record, the loss didn't sway me. I've been awaiting a nice little tank season for a few years now. At this point, I'm just hopeful/excited.
I voted yes because of all the players that played......but it will switch to no if McHale chooses a rotation, and sticks with it. DD
Thanks. I only follow that same line of thinking because people keep saying the 2012 draft will be so deep. Apparently 2012 is pretty important.
The Rockets signed Dalembert who looked like the second coming of Deke out there today, meanwhile Thabeet is inactive. You tell me if they are tanking.
^^ Yeah, but when you call it "tanking" people get all up in arms. To them I say: Look, this is the PERFECT opp. to tank. I'm not a "Morey-ite" but the man is supremely smart...this fact cannot be discounted. Period. I just feel like maybe, just maybe, after the failed Gasol(s) trade(s)/signing(s) that Les and Daryl and Kevin have gotten together to use this shortened season to play what youth we have and maybe make a move (Scola?, Martin?), and MAYBE not be so upset with temporary losing with such talent to be had this coming offseason. I implore you, Clutchfans, look past the fact that I started this thread after game 1 and consider the possibility. Would it be so bad?
My thoughts are mixed. The trade that wasn't and the signing of SammyD, says no way we are tanking. Then the coaching or lack there of at the end of tonights game, says well maybe.
^ Signing Dalembert was akin to signing Pudge this year to the Astros almost. Dalembert being WAY more important to the team...but this IS a 5 man sport and I think you get my meaning. We absolutely NEEDED a presence in the paint. Dalembert brings us that at an extremely reasonable price. To point to that signing as a contention that we aren't in fact "tanking" is an absolute fallacy IMHO. We needed Dalebmbert...to be good or bad.
Yeah, when you're tanking, best to play Dalembert, who hasn't practiced, 20 minutes and bench Thabeet. Also a good idea to play your lotto pick only 4 minutes when you're "tanking". The only thing that gives me pause is all the T-Will love. Bud should be out there more over Williams if you're trying to win.
Exactly. Thanks for putting me in my place. I hadn't considered the fact that they played superstar Dalembert over "can't crack a roster" Thabeet. Good call, man. You're right. I was WAY off base. This team is built to WIN baby!!! Jesus f.cking christ, I'm trying to stay civil here...but are you dumb? Samuel Da effing lembert playing over Hasheem effingThabeet is your argument for why we aren't "tanking"? Awesome. You are beyond awesome.
Not sure if it's tanking or not. But basically the same team (sans Adelman) went to the Lottery last season. Why would there be a higher expectation level of the same talent? #11 to #14 Lottery seeds usually beat the sub .500 teams and lose to playoff bound teams. No surprises here.
