Yao will have a 20+ point night if he can stay ou of foul trouble. He is a stud against weak centers in the league and Adonel Foyle gives up 8 inches against Yao.;)

Warriors to see different Yao this time
Rockets rookie phenom has made great strides since last meeting
    By Matt Steinmetz
    CONTRA COSTA TIMES

OAKLAND - All eyes will be on Yao Ming tonight when the Houston Rockets play the Warriors at the Arena.

That's nothing new for Yao, Houston's 7-foot-5 rookie center from China who was selected with the No. 1 pick in the June draft. Truth is, Yao already has grown tired of all the attention, pressure and scrutiny that comes with being the league's No. 1 sideshow.

So how does Yao deal with it all?

"The best way to deal with it is sleeping," Yao, through a translator, said Tuesday via conference call from Portland, Ore., where the Rockets played the Blazers.

Apparently, this sleeping giant recently awoke. After struggling for the first few games of his professional career, Yao has made significant strides in the past two weeks. The progression has translated into some big-time games, including a 30-point, 16-rebound game against the Dallas Mavericks on Nov. 21 and a 20-point game -- on 9-for-9 shooting -- against the Los Angeles Lakers on Nov. 17.

Clearly, the Warriors (4-10) will see a different player in Yao from the one who had only three points and two rebounds in seven minutes in Houston's 111-104 victory over Golden State on Nov. 9.

"He's been phenomenal," Warriors coach Eric Musselman said. "Having seen him against Team USA (on Aug. 22 at the Arena), you could see his skills and it was scary. He's developing ahead of where you thought he'd be. He's a great passer and his height alone changes things."

Yao, who led the league in field goal percentage (.677) heading into Tuesday's games, struggled on Sunday against the Los Angeles Clippers, scoring only four points in 28 minutes. Some of that had to do with being guarded by Wang Zhi Zhi, a former teammate on the Chinese national team who is very familiar with Yao's game.

"From a technique standpoint, I need to get more accustomed to the NBA environment -- the physical part of the game," Yao said. "As far as my physicality, I won't be able to change that right away."

Yao is considered an extremely skilled big man, blessed with soft hands and a feel for the game. If he is able to withstand the rigors of playing against big, bruising opponents on a consistent basis, there is no telling how dominant he could become.

Dominant is not the word used to describe Yao's first performance against the Warriors. In that game, the only dominant center on the court was Erick Dampier, the Warriors center who had 23 points, nine rebounds and seven blocked shots.

"He wasn't a factor," Dampier said. "He only scored two points. Now, he's probably getting more opportunities. Being 7-5, he either can't be strong enough or quick enough or able to run the floor. So every time I take a shot, I can't just lob it up there. I have to take it strong. If I take the ball strong, I think I'll get fouled and I have to knock down free throws."

NOTES: The Warriors announced that guard Bob Sura strained his lower back during reconditioning from his left calf strain. According to the team, Sura is undergoing rehabilitation for the back strain. There is no timetable for his return. ... The Warriors waived guard A.J. Guyton on Tuesday, and general manager Garry St. Jean said the team likely will sign a point guard in the next few days. Guyton was signed Nov. 18 and saw only limited action for the Warriors.

One positive thing coming out of last night loss, eh, eh, .... Oh yes, since Yao only play 18 minutes he should be fresh for today's game. May be he can carried the Rocket tonight since our next excuse will be it's a back to back game. On a more serious note, it actually help Yao tonight since he only play 18 minutes last night. I think we will win this one. If not, life goes on. It's only a game.

If we lose this one, we will have officially hit bottom. From the heights to the depths in less than two weeks.

umm.. we could lose this game....

The only reason why I think we won against the Warriors early in the season is because of the home court advantage. Ja Rule and his crew were watching that game so I assume the Rockets were playing more than 100%.But the way we have been playing right now are not good at all. If the Rockets focus on the boards and boxing out and bringing good defense we can win this. Every game in the NBA is not easy so we can't let this go.

    Rockets 102
    Warriors 101

You must not have seen the Warriors play very often. They don't "decide" to do that; it's their standard defensive scheme. :)

I am gonna be at the game too. My friends and I have prepared signs. We are gonna scream all thru the 48 mins, for the rox, of course, although we will be sitting at the worst seats. And I know many (Asian) people are going there rooting for yao, if not for the rox. So probably we can't move down.

The Arena will be loud every time Yao touches the ball, just like what happened in LA several days ago. :)

Just for the sake of my effort, the rox and yao had better win a good one. :p
