I dont remember exactly when we got Steve last offseason or when we trade Pippen, but just imagine how good that team could have been. It is all Pippens fault really. That SOB really just pisses me off. IF he woulda been a team player instead of the jack*** that he was and wanted to stay with our team, our lineup would have been

    C:HAkeem, Pig
    PF:Barkley, Thomas
    SF:pippen, Bullard
    SG:Anderson, Mobley
    PG:Francis, Drew

That team, if it woulda stayed healthy all season long, and if Pippen wouldnt have been a cry baby, would have won the championship,no doubt. In my opinion it is definitely better than the Lakers, and better than the Blazers unit that choked in the 4th quarter.

Why go back and rehash old memories? Sometimes you gotta look at the past to fully understand the future. No, were not in prime contention right now, but 2 of our main guys, Walt and Cato are direct benefits from that Pippen trade and we now have our new style of offense. More importantly, I think, Rudy knows EXACTLY what kind of players he does and doesnt want on his team, and he ownt ever be making a dumbass move like signing a Scottie Pippen to work in his system again.

SO Im going to remember the past but look ahead to a bright bright future.

A toast to teh Rockets and to many championships in the years to come.

That's what the lineup would have been, more or less. Pippen was traded after the Francis deal, and that's ONE of the reasons why we hate Pippen so much. We finally had the point guard we needed. We got a steal in Shandon Anderson. We were set.

Thanks for reopening old wounds. [IMG]

Quitten was a punk and was grossly overpaid. His contract goes up toward 20 mill in the next 2 years. He is not worth it. His numbers have gone down steadly and he gets his jock handed to him on a regular basis. I am glad he is gone. Hindsight is 20/20 when it comes to the injuries but if Quitten was still here, we would be severly over the cap for the next 3 years. We are better off..good riddince

If you look at pure stats, Walt was not much worse then Scottie. He was also alot cheaper. I think Pip may have caused more turmoil on this team then needed. He also had a fat contract.
So next year, instead of going after a high-priced FA, we would be stuck with a 36 year-old whiner with a bad back averaging 12 points 6 rebs, 6 assists a game, while making 14 million. And also complaining about his role on this team and not making the all-star team.

I agree. In hindsight, Barkley went down, Dream had problems, and we'd be stuck with Pippen's contract (and Pippen for that matter). Things definately worked out for the best.

At the time, though last year looked promising after the Francis and Anderson deals. Let's not forget the mantra: "All we need is a full training camp..."

Thank God we traded Pippen, and got rid of his contract! The Rockets would have been screwed long term if Portland would not have bailed us out.

That just shows how stupid Blazers front office people are. Remember they offered us Sheed for Pippen. Man....

I dont know how Portland doesnt get totally screwed with their contracts. Pippen, Smith, Stoudamire, Wallace, Sibonis, others that I cant remember right now, and now Fat Boy Kemp? How can they afford all of that?

Agreed, Portland needs an IRS audit.

    Can you say luxury tax?

They are owned by Paul Allen who made his money through Microsoft. He has got deep pockets. He will need them next year when the tax comes in. Their payroll has to be pushing 90 mill by now.

JayZ is saying IF pippen had not been a wuss and if we had a healthy team. They yeah the Rockets would have won the championship, but thats a big "IF"

But since Hakeem and Charles were never healthy Im glad we got rid of p***y Pippen. Man I just wish we had gotten Sheed.

Pippen leaving was the best thing that could have happened. It allowed us to start rebuilding a few years earlier and got rid of a cancer in the locker room.

That team would NOT have won the title. On paper, certainly, but not on the court.

Dream and Barkley were both nowhere near what they used to be. They both broke down....and would have regardless of whether Pippen stayed or not.

When the injuries hit, we could have had a disaster. We could have had a whining, b****ing Pippen trying to force a trade all season etc and ruing morale completely.

Instead, we had was a bunch of young guys (with no pressure on them) going out there and playing some great ball and enjoying themselves. Team harmony goes way up....experience levels go way up...and we have a platform for the future.

Pippens petulance would have killed all that. No one should look back and say "what if" as though we'd of won a title. You should look back and feel damm relieved that we got rid of him before things went too sour throughout the entire camp.

Pippen would have refused to leave the bench because Rudy would have called the last play for Stevie.

I would rather get Carlos, Walt and Cato then Rasheed. For the simple fact is that he has one of the worst tempers I've seen and putting him with Charles would be stupid at the time. There would have been (Shaq vs Chuck but in this case Sheed vs Chuck) fights after every game! Plus the three we got have fit in nicely. Cato will only get better!

Rasheed is already one of the top 3 or 4 power forwards in the game. Cato wont ever be top 3-4 in anything. Yeah he has a temper problem, but I think he would have matured soon enough. He controlled his temper later on in the LA series. Plus he can score with the best of em. His 15-18 foot jumpers cannot be rivaled in the league today. His fg %, reb, defense, and hustle make him way better than Cato.

I've thought about the possibilities if PipSqueek had stayed as well, but I too am wary of what could have happened, even if Scottie behaved himself. Chemistry and injuries are hard to predict. Scottie just wasn't never meant to be a Rocket. Combine Walt's offense with Shandon's all-round game, and you have something better than Pippen sans the whining. My regret isn't on trading away Quitten, but of who we got for him. Sure, it wasn't a bad deal considering the fact that everyone knew we had to trade him, but in hindsight, all we got was Cato, Walt and Rogers.
