Rudy T. forgot that he had Yao Ming on the bench last night?

There is no other logical explanation. At first I understood him being on the bench for his foul trouble, but when he didnt come in until the last of the third quarter and then in the 4th with six minutes left I really felt that Rudy must be on dope or something. I watched the game with the Portland broacasters on TV and they didnt even know why Ming wasnt playing. They literally said "the Blazers should take advantage of this game while Ming is on the bench. Since he closes up the middle? I wonder if Leslie Alexander or Carrol Dawson read these forums.

I"m sure this is being discussed elsewhere too... but this is the first thread I saw so I'll just throw in my thoughts.

First, I don't think Les et. al. really care what our opinions of basketball strategy are.

That said, I was screaming at the TV last night, wondering why the hell Yao Ming wasn't in there. Looking at the box now... 18 minutes played, 10 pts, rbs. That's not one of Yao's best efforts, but considering the entire team only managed 77 pts, it's clear he was at least making things happen. He also drew 5 shooting fouls (although his free-throw shooting was simply horrid last night). And he played solid D on Sabonis.

I didn't see anything wrong with the second half substitution. Yao got about 16 minutes, which is about what he should play.

It's the FIRST half that was absolutely MYSTERIOUS. MYSTERIOUS MYSTERIOUS. Sure, take him out with 2 fouls. You have to. But why the hell isn't he back in there with 5 minutes left in the 2nd quarter? Is he really in danger of fouling out when he plays so few minutes anyways?

Ugh. Made NO sense. That was an ugly, ugly game last night.

Besides missing his freethrows Ming had a very good game. Had he made all his free throws we would of had 17 points. He would of eventually fouled out a blazer or too since he was being fouled hard every time that he got the ball close to the basket. If Rudy was smarter he would have exploited that.

I will go nuts if Rudy plays Ming for 18 minutes again today. Regardless of how many fouls he has.

Yao isn't quite ready for Sabonis? Laugh if you want but he looked like a big ass 10 ft point guard with some of those passes.

Anyone notice how he brushes his hair back every time he entered the game. He trips me out.

whenever yao plays 30 minutes he is dead tired in the 4th he didn't look as tired in the 4th this time. I think Yao playing 30+ minutes is a bad idea at this point.

check it out, there's an Air Langhi on the board!!! hehe

I'm confused by the long benching, too. wierd stuff. We do have to nip this getting two quick fouls in 2 minutes thing in the bud, though.

Getting two quick fouls in two minutes should probably bench a star play in any team.

But for Yao Ming, since he needs all the experience he can get playing NBA basketball, I say Rudy T. shouldn't worry about him fouling out.

If he commits six fouls, fine. But at least, he should get his minutes of playing time which are crucial in getting him more comfortable with playing NBA basketball. Cato is still there if Yao fouls out. Then there is Collier.

Use those players while there still with the Rockets, instead of letting them sit on the bench.

I didn't get a good look at the second foul, which was a loose ball fouil, but the first one was pretty lame. Calvin Murphy mentioned it as well. Ming is moving backwards, defending a drive to the basket, and is bumped in the chest. Foul! What's he supposed to do? Put his arms down and step aside?
