I am not saying it is even close to the be all end all - neither are perfect, but I think you can read more in the box score than the +/- which is often included as PART of the boxscore. DD
OK.... Just so we're clear, do you agree that all box score stats measure things that are substantially affected by teammate and opponent performance?
For official records, just like wins and loss columns. Numbers and stats accumulate during a game, those numbers get recorded and the box score presents those numbers in an efficient manner that's easy to the eyes. Now as to people drawing conclusions based on those numbers, well that's not the box score's true purpose, people who correctly use the box score are suppose to actually find out themselves how those numbers were compiled.
I'm curious what you guys look for in a box score. The main things I look at are the minutes played and team percentages. If the coach decided to play the guy a lot, there had to be some reason. If there are a lot of zeros in the line it just means the box score is not telling the story that the coach saw. Battier was a good example of that. Opponents team shooting percentage gives me an idea of our overall defense. Number of boards, number of three point shots taken gives you an idea of what happened. Those are the main numbers I look at - what do you key in on?
I pretty much look for the same things that you spoke of. Basically i am trying to follow the team more stats wise and also get a more detailed look at the output of the 09ers.
What is the point of this thread? There are many sources to find boxscores. The ClutchFans site itself already has a page for boxscores here.
