1984 - worlds fair? that was the last time i went until i went a couple months ago. really cool city and great people - enjoyed it much more than i expected.

willie maes scotch house? i didnt make it there, but i think thats the place you are talking about.

    also:
yuki - japanese pub food and pretty cool atmosphere
clover grill - 24 diner run by gay dudes - good food and funny place

if you want an interesting and tasty adult beverage go to the gato negro for pineapple cilantro margaritas.

    Muriel's.
    Antoine's.
Galvez. <--does a good job getting the Spanish influence in the food, IMO.

    Yup. World's Fair.

I'm going to try and hit up hole-in-the-wall type places and mom & pop type shops.

I've heard about this place, but the one thing everybody b****es about is their hours are restrictive as hell. They're only open something like 4 hours a day. The only thing worse than that is probably Snow's BBQ in Lexington. lol.

You said a month or two yesterday.........Mardi Gras is exactly two months from yesterday. I haven't missed a New Orleans Mardi Gras since well before Katrina...........will be there again this year even though we don't live in the states anymore. If you don't want the craziness of the big weekend, go the weekend before. You can still catch some nice parades and some of the spirit of a great celebration.
