Back in the day everyone in the hood was a Lakers fan. Those were the days of Wilt, West, Happy Hairston, Gail Goodrich (wicked finger roll!) It would be the East vs. the West in the finals, the Lakers vs. the Celtics or the Knicks, usually. Then the Rockets moved to Houston from San Diego. I've been a Rockets fan ever since. ~kountzer~
I'm a both a Laker fan (Laker fan since we draft that guy # 32 )and Yao Ming Fan since June 2002 (I love Shaqfu, but Yao Za is truly amazing.
One lazy summer....1994.....saw we actually had LIVE coverage of the NBA Finals....on summer holidays from school....decided to stay up through the night and watch them....got hooked on this big Nigerian guy....somehow developed an instant dislike for the Knicks....celebrated the title and decided I now had "my" team. Been here ever since and enjoyed every second of the ride, even the struggles. One day I'll make it over for a game or two. I've promised myself that.
I'm from a little Port name after a guy name Arthur. South Texans to my heart when anyone ask where I'm from I simply say south texas. Anything with Houston on it I love it. I started going to NBA , NFL,MLB game with my father at a early age 5 I believe . I have fond memory of watching Earl Cambell ,Mike Scott even Kevin "I hit grand slam home in 9th"Bass only hit for two month. My namesake the great Allen Leavell, Robert Reid, Purvis Short , Tim McCormick , Ralph Sampson, Wiggins, John Lucas , Lewis "I'm on the dope"Lloyd Need I say more just one more for the road The stick himself Chuck Newwit(sp) Peace from I-35 North
Rocket fan since the year i knew what basketball was, i was 6, now im 14 i was born in Houston but i moved to Florida when i was 4, But im a Houstonian at heart
1984 even being a newyorker won't change me from my rockets. i am like a scottish hooligan-type fan, my guys can kill someone, and i'd be like, "well, he probably had it commin!!!" i bleed red and gold...oh, wait, well, pinstripes then!
ever since dream joined the rox... wait that was b4 i was born... oops. well in that case since i been alive
Been a Rocket fan since Ming was drafted, so you know where I stand . But I always have been a fan of Hakeem and started to admire Rudy and like Steve and Cat after seeing how Ming has been brought along and been helped out on and off court. (Les, Please don't fire Rudy by listening to what fans said on this board! although I agree his coaching is sloppy sometimes.) Shrimpie.
I'm a Rocket fan ever since I came to the US in 1995. I like Yao Ming but I will always be behind the team no matter who plays for us. I hope that some day we will make it back to the glory days of being NBA Champions, but I will always support the Houston Rockets regardless of whatever our record may be.
Port Arthur? Cool. I grew up in Silsbee. I've seen a lot of good high school basketball played at Pt Arthur Lincoln, the last being Steve Jackson who plays for the Spurs. ~ Kountzer ~
I think the thread implies half of what's going on in the Game Acton and Roster forum. I like Yao, but I want the Rockets to win above everything else.
I admit stuff like that, and Im labeled a homer.. But Im with ya on that one, If it says "Houston" on it..I'm a fan! Rockets, Oilers, Gamblers, Astros, Aeros, Comets, T-Bears even...Ill cheer for every one of em.. Been watching the Rockets since they came over from San Diego..way back in the day.. If you wear the Rockets uni, I'm your fan..even dirty bastards like Pippen..I hated Chuck and Pippen before they got here...I root for them as hard as any player while they wear the uniform..but once they leave..I'll go back to cussing you, ya dirty bastig. well. except for Sam the man and Mario..I still cheered for them after they left..except when they play us..
I'm a Rocket fan. I will never put one player of above the team,if Yao scored 4pts and 5rebs and the Rockets win i'm happy.
It is not mutual exclusive whether be a Rox fan or Yao ming's fan. I would like the most if Rox wins and at same time Yao ming dominates. I will be pretty happy if Rox wins and Yao just scores like 8 pts, 4 rbs. I won't be too happy if Rox loses while Yao has a big game. I won't be happy at all if Rox losed and Yao did not do well at all. Classify me then.
Hi! This is my first post. I'm a Malaysian Chinese who started as a Portland Trailblazers & Drexler fan in 1989. Joined the Rocket camp in 1994, amazed by the Dream shake and the three-point bombing gang (hell, Horry is still doing his clutch 3-pointer now!!!!!) while still followed Drexler closely. Then... my dream came true! Drexler joined the Dream and got his first and only ring!!! But I kinda cool off on Rocket for the past few years, after 2 combinations of 3 Dream Teamers (Dream-Drexler-CB and Dream-CB-Pippen) failed to bring another ring and Pippen chickened out!! Well, it must be another dream came true that Rocket drafted Yao Ming!!!! Being a Chinese, I really want Yao to develope into a legitimate legend and help Rockets to get a few more banners. Feel sad reading so many postings here arguing 'bout who's the best Rocket, who's the leader, who's to be blamed for a loss........ IMO, the only chance 4 Rockets to beat Kings, Lakers, Mav or Spurs is to get both SF & YM playing together and the rest of the team playing their support cast role. Hakeen + Drexler = Steve + Yao = a sweep on Shaq!!!!!!!!!! GO ROCKETS
