You are the USA/Canada champion idiot. Not the "world champion". This guy is a perfect example of why so many people hate pro athletes.

Every country on Earth outside the US just laughs and laughs and laughs at the notion of them being "world champions". The NBA is viewed as a total joke, whenever they make that absurd claim.

If Stern had any sense at all he would prohibit the players from saying that, because it is a big joke all around the world.

This "World Champ" would be working the 12am-8am shift at IHOP, if not for basketball. STFU moron.

Again all the best players in national teams belong to the NBA. If the Euro league people were so great you'd be those guys leading their teams to victory. Instead you have NBA players like Dirk, Gasol brothers and Manu/Scola leading their teams to basketball dominance. If these phantom euroleague guys of yours are so great why don't we see Euro teams of yours winning the Olympics?

In his defense, VSpan-led Greece did beat Team USA with Carmelo/LBJ/Wade/CP3/Bosh back in 2006.

I don't think many disagree with the notion that the NBA is the best league on earth (except for OHMSS) but whether an NBA team can win a world-wide tournament is not as straight-forward. An analogy being, George Mason or Butler or Virginia Commonwealth beating top seeds from major conferences. Sure they didn't win it all, but when the format is one-game knock-out, unpredictable things can happen and do happen.

Again, they are the USA/Canada champions. And there is absolutely no argument possible to correctly argue otherwise.

Why is everyone fixating on the world champion bs? Marion's point was that the Mavs are being written off already, even though they are the current champs. He didn't make-up the world bs -- the NBA has been calling it that for decades.

you mean NBA north america champions?

kinda defeats the purpose of being champions when you have to ask people to call you champions.

Stern already asked the NBA teams to stop calling themselves "world champions" awhile ago. Because it simply isn't true and it's very bad marketing tactics by the NBA.
