Bottom line: this is a really interesting wrinkle in the makeup of the league. I don't like this whole "grouping of the stars" thing that's going on from a theoretical perspective, even if the cap is supposed to create some parity, but theory aside, there is the potential for another real powerhouse to join the Heat, "Knicks" (quotes cuz I'm not high on Melo or Amare compared to other star players), etc...
Excellent observation...They should go after OJ Mayo. They could also use a legit backup big. I would amnesty Mo Williams and sign Dalembert and the Clips would then be in "win-now" mode. You could then start Mayo and have Chauncey come off the bench along with the Haitian Sensation and lead the second unit and Bledsoe, Foye, and Gomes are serviceable enough to give the starters a breather on the bench during the regular season, which would allow CP3 and company to log the majority of the mins in the playoffs. Thank you, Clutch...leebigez, myself, and a few others have been making this point for a while now. I believe leebigez made the observation on draft night and received the usual criticism by the "Morey is infallible/how dare you criticize him" crowd. Some people also respond by saying that "well every other team passed up on Jordan," but how many of those teams desperately needed a C. But what makes it a particularly poor decision by the Rockets was passing up on a 19 year old athletic 7 footer with quickness, speed, great leaping ability, long arms and wingspan for a 25 year old undersized "ray lewis with a basketball." Maybe it's another example of Morey refusing to draft based on potential like he said so at the Sloan Analytics Conference. Either way it really sucks for the Rockets.
This depresses me in soo many ways. It's only a matter of time until the NBA makes it so that teams like LA and Boston can get a bi in playoff series, the same way it works in football... Maybe I should embrace the change. Ladies and Gentlemen, please welcome your new NBA Commission Mr. Vincent Kennedy McMahon!!!
CP3 has grown up a lot since the Spurs series (where he choked in game 7) and the Denver series where he gave up because of Donte Jones' physical play. He's also stopped whining about every single call and no longer lets the refs dictate his body language on the court. I still despise the way CP3 flops and reverts to constant ref baiting when he's overmatched (specifically against Russell Westbrook). But let's be clear about something: I've never questioned how great a basketball player CP3 is. Before the trade happened I said the Clippers should give up Eric Gordon and anyone else besides Griffin in a heartbeat because CP3 is a franchise-changing talent, something EG will never be. I said after the trade (before tonight) they are a Finals contender. CP3 has improved as a leader and the whiny-girl vibe from earlier in his career is gone.
Never really gave a damn about Clippers either way. But just want to say I do not want to see Donald Sterling win anything. I know that NBA owners in general aren't exactly a group of saints, but Sterling is horrible even by greedy billionaire standards.
wow after one pre-season game. really? I know they are most likely a playoff team now but come on guys. I know yall are still rockets fans but seriously jumping ships because this one isn't going anywhere. I guess winning is only thing that brings out the so called supporters. Well I for one will wait and it will all be worth it one day, right? hopefully within in the next 5 yrs. Bleed rockets red. All day-Every day.
lob city is no joke honestly, why cant they be a top 3-4 seed in the west ? these guys have only had TWO practices since coming together and looked like they have been playing together for years. imagine how good they can be when they really start clicking. dangerous dangerous team here.
A good fan doesn't bandwagon period. Of course I won't bandwagon a team pieced together under the auspices of Stern, Racist Don Sterling, and crybaby Chris Paul. I don't want to knock Chris Paul too much since he is a good guy off the court, plus I saw him lose twice live in college. But he's the kind of point guard that is the opposite of Lowry, and one whose play I am not much a fan of frankly. He's really quick with great vision to be sure, but he lacks in toughness, resorts to referree star treatment when he needs it, and plays a kind of cheapass passing lanes defense that I can only refer to as George Karl-ian. In essence, he does things to look good, and if this were the NBA of 15 years ago he would have been knocked on his ass ten times over and been half as good a player on the stats sheet for it. This no-touch business has elevated his game perhaps more than anyone else in the NBA; maybe him, Steve Nash, Aaron Brooks, those types of guys. And I don't care if that's what gets results now, I still prefer gritty underdog hard-nosed players like Lowry. I'll go to war with Lowry; I'll throw everything I have behind him. But Chris Paul? Sorry. Now he's just another part of the problem known as the Establishment. Fight the Man. Root against the Clipps just like you would the Lakers and the Heat. Root for chaos, for David Stern to be wrong and out of control as soon as possible.
