I'm moving back to Houston to start a job downtown. I'm looking to get a gym membership some place where I can play basketball and workout in the area.

The downtown Y looks nice - anyone play here?

Also, if anyone happens to be a member, I would love to know how much membership at the Downtown Club is (the Met)? And if there is an initiation fee like at the Houstonian? It's hard to find pricing anywhere.

Any insight is appreciated, sorry if this thread is too narrow.

Downtown Y has rec leagues thru out the year and good pickup games also. Place is old, lighting is dim at least it was when I last played there. Still had some good competititon and great games. Not sure what the memebership is but it being a YMCA it shouldn't be too bad.

I'm a member of the YMCA and go to the downtown/Tellepsen branch all the time. I never play basketball, but I sometimes watch the games from the workout area. They usually seem pretty competitive.

It's really, really nice -- I think it's less than a year old. We have a family membership, and I think it's like $79 a month and I have a locker for like $6 a month. I think it's $10 cheaper for an individual membership. It's a great place -- parking can sometimes be a bit tough, but I've always found a space.
