Navarro had to go back. He owed his old Euro team some crazy buyout amount it was like $10 million. When he agreed to go back they called off the debt.
Why do you think? Because since he was a first round NBA draft pick and since he played 3 years in the NBA on a western conference playoff team, in their rotation........... because the NBA champions traded for him.......... he must be "a star in Europe". That's why. They overrated how good he is just as much as the Blazers did, just as much as Morey and the Rockets did when they were talking about getting him at the draft. Rudy Fernandez has always been extremely overrated, much the same exact case like Rubio. He was maybe a top 15-20 shooting guard in Europe before he came to the NBA, but he was hyped by the NBA hype machine as "the Jordan of Europe", "the Kobe of Europe". It's basically the same nonsense as with Rubio. But in this case, Real Madrid learned their lesson. Because of the lockout they actually got a chance to see how good he was and what he could actually do in Euroleague for them. The result was that after 2 months they were extremely disappointed with him and most of their fans already wanted him off the team. They overpaid for him, simply because he played in the NBA. It's the same way that guys like Delfino and Childress got huge contracts in Europe and were pretty much huge busts. Rudy was heading to that same thing. So, if he wants to go back to Spain and had it how he thinks he can have it, he better do it real quick, because Real Madrid will not wait around fro him after how he played there and they will spend the money on better players that are already in Europe. That was basically his one chance to get such a contract in Europe. And no other teams in Spain were going to ever offer him that anyway, because they probably already knew how overrated he is. real Madrid just has a ton of money to waste and they have bad management.
Correct. For some strange reason 99% of NBA fans have revised this to "Navarro was scared of the NBA".
Yeah well, this is how great the NBA rotation player from NBA playoff teams Fernandez did in Euroleague: 38.5 Field Goal % 31.9 3 Point Field Goal % 11.5 Points Per Game 3.1 Rebounds Per Game 2.3 Assists Per Game 1.3 Steals Per Game 0.1 Blocks Per Game 1.5 Turnovers Per Game http://www.euroleague.net/competiti...ode=BMT&clubcode=MAD&seasoncode=e2011 And he is ranked 57th in the Euroleague in Performance Index Ranking (PIR): http://www.euroleague.net/main/statistics/individual/average?page=3 You can say whatever you want to about Spanoulis and Navarro but they are way hell of a lot better players in Euroleague than Rudy Fernandez was before he came to the NBA, and still way hell of a lot better Euroleague players than Rudy Fernandez was after coming back to the Euroleague from the NBA. The guy could not even manage to shoot even 40% from the field. He was 57th in the league in PIR. That's how much of a "superstar" he is in Euroleague.
Feranandez AND Brewer for 2nd round pick!!!!!!!!!! http://twitter.com/ESPNSteinLine Great trade for Denver they just made a decent decent replacement for Smith and Chandler, and saved so much money. All they gave up was a 2nd round pick. All Morey can get us is Taylor and Lin.
Because he played all season with a knee injury. Fernandez on the other hand has no excuses. And did you glance at Vujacic's shooting percentages? This guy that played years in the NBA on the Lakers rotation and started for the Nets (averaging double figures) is shooting, 36.7 % from the field and 30.2 % from 3 point range. Vujacic is yet another "Euroleague superstar" that shoots well below 40% fro the field. I doubt if he even could get another contract in Euroleague after this year with how awful he is on offense.
Thanks for that list insofar as it show the level of talent it takes to dominate the euroleague in this metric, with American superstars like Jaycee Carroll (Utah State, never invited to NBA camp after summer league), Bo McCalebb, (UNO - that's a school), SDSU's Marcus Slaughter, and legendary Lakers great Jordan Farmar among the best Europe's pro leagues has to offer. These D-League filler players are able to flourish - no wonder a moonlighting fat Deron Willliams crushed the whole continent in the span of a month.
Yeah, and with numerous current NBA rotation players being among the very worst players of the entire league. Funny too how some of the worst players to ever play in the history of the Euroleague - Samhan, Jaaber end up being signed by the Rockets and how maybe the worst player in Euroleague this season (Reggie Williams) is supposedly one of Morey's targets. The worst players in the Euroleague = Morey signings.
^Those guys have merely been invited to camp and will be a long-shot to make a team. Do us a favor and stop posting. You think the Euroleague is better. We find it to be boring. Please stop trolling this forum with your nonsense. It's beyond old. Do you realize that there's not one person who takes you seriously here? Is OHMSS the TMAC leg sleeve/point-forward guy? That would explain so much.
Cause this isnt the Euroleague with its stupid rules, horrible refereeing and inferior players. The NBA is a much more enjoyable and entertaining version of basketball... and, by virtue of being the NBA, the right one. Borderline players are much more dependent on their particular skill-set or athleticism to fit into the system in place. They're much more dependent on playing off other, better players. In many cases, individually you might be able to find better talents, those talents aren't capable of fulfilling whatever role is required of them within the given system. But, as has been proven many times over, with above average professional skills and athleticism, NBA players reign supreme, on the whole.
Those guys are not good enough to even get a single Euroleague team to even offer them a workout. Yet they are good enough to get invited to camp by Morey. Guys that are scrubs by European standards = Morey camp invitees.
Yeah, which explains why about 1/3 of the NBA rotation players that went to the Euroleague during the lockout became scrubs there, and why about 1/3 of them became nothing more than average level payers at best.............yeah, their "superiority" sure would explain that happening.
Look, I'm not on OHMSS's camp on the whole Euroleague vs NBA thing, but then you wonder why foreigners often think of Americans as arrogant... For the millionth time, let's stop derailing threads over which league is better. Rudy Fernández is going to Denver. Pretty good pickup to make up for the losses of J.R. Smith and Wilson Chandler
seriously, how is it being arrogant. it's the first league, formed out of the founding of the sport, remains the most popular league with the most popular players worldwide, with the best players. It's not arrogance. It's just a statement of facts.
Exactly, and why above average college players unlikely to ever step foot on an NBA court can become great there. That, and desire, culture, assimilation, etc... all factors that contribute to solid euro players performing horribly in the NBA (V-Span)
Above average college players do not become great in Euroleague. Some of the biggest NCAA stars are mere bit part role players in Euroleague. This is the problem. NBA fans just run their mouths off about Euroleague without actually knowing anything about it.
