ESPN sources: In most advanced scenario, Nuggets offer to take Rudy F and Brewer from Dallas into cap space for future draft considerations

HoopsHype's own @BarriHoopsHype confirms Rudy's Denver-bound. Mavs known to still have high hopes for Brewer but Denver in hunt for him, too

No 2nd rounder or anything? Assumed they'd be trying to build a package to try and get Dwight.

We could have gotten him for KMart. Cuban loves Kmart.

In the NBA, Rudy is a sissified wimp. He should just go back to Spain where he's happy. Mr. Butterfly hasn't been the same since the Ariza foul.

That's it? Lol. The Mavs just gave up their first rounder to acquire Fernandez...

Stern should veto this for basketball reasons.

He better demand out of Denver and go back to Spain real soon though. Real Madrid was extremely unhappy with how he played for them this season and the fans of the club already wanted him out.

If he wants to resume playing there with that huge contract they gave him then he better get back there real, real quick, before they have time to sign someone much better than him for that money they spent on him.

Why would he go back to Europe if he's guaranteed playing time, possibly even starting in the NBA?

Smith and Chandler are stuck in China, so he should have more than a great oppurtunity for playing time.

Isn't his salary like $1mil? Do they really need to dump that? Or did it help make swallowing Brewer's salary easier on Denver? And if so, why include picks?

The pick is likely nominal consideration, likely one of those "top 55 proteced 2nd rounders" that disappears if it doesn't fall behind the 55th pick.

As for why dumping salary? My guess is the Mavs are gonna make a hard run at Deron, Dwight or CP (whichever of them ends up in free agency) and Rudy's $1 million actually do make a difference.

They need someone to fill in for JR while he is stuck in China, good pickup for Denver.

He was making $10 million per year in Spain and after he played fairly mediocre this year in Europe, they won't wait long at all for him to come back, before that money goes to a better player. That is why.

If you think he is ever going to be making $10 million a year in the NBA, then...........

Some Euro players just don't have the drive to compete in the superior league. They'd rather be back home where they're comfortable, and where they're superstars instead of NBA role players. See: Spanoulis, Vassilis; Navarro, Juan Carlos.

Fernandez is especially unhappy about one thing or another over here. He asked Portland to trade so he could have more playing time...and then when they agreed to deal him to NO, where he'd have a good chance to start, he said no thanks. Now he's dealt to the world champion Dallas Mavs and he asks to be traded again because he'd rather not compete for minutes against Carter's old ass.

The dude is just a spoiled brat with way too many demands for a mediocre bench player. Good riddance when he goes back to Spain.

Cubes has amnesty in his back pocket that he can use next summer to clear out another $8M (Marion/H'wood). Could easily have $20-25M in room

Mavericks are clearly going all in for Deron Williams and the summer of 2012. Still have amnesty, could be more than $20 mill under the cap

Mavs clearing the deck for next year. Clear out guys now, sign some vets to one year deals. Make a run at Deron and/or Dwight next year in FA

Spanoulis and Navarro may be superstars in Euroleague but Rudy Fernandez is nowhere even remotely near that level. He's like 3 tiers below players like Spanoulis and Navarro in Euroleague.

So, he certainly does not prefer to play in Europe because "he is a superstar there". That's just 100% totally false.

I think Deron most likely. He's from Dallas.

Who wouldn't wanna go back home and play for Cuban with Dirk?
