Outside of Morey trying to corral a center I think the only other clear transaction to be made is moving one of our backup PGs. Flynn is getting paid 3.4 million and Dragic is at 2.1 million. As things stand Flynn is our 3rd string PG and paying 3.4 million for a 3rd string PG is pretty obscene for Les. Dragic would be the easier of the 2 players to trade, but moving Flynn would make more financial sense. I think Flynn gets moved to some random under the cap team.
I'd say trade Flynn too... Sorry McHale. I know how much you love your former Timberwolves players but he has to go.
Either of them, whichever one the other team wants, but based upon draft position, Flynn should be rated higher. DD
I agree one is likely to get dealt and I don't think it matters. However, I would guess Dragic for two reasons: 1) He just got traded. 2) Flynn's stock is low... likely has more to gain in value by playing him.
Barring a trade to land this elusive big fish, I say keep them both. If Morris and T-Will aren't ready to contribute there's a good chance Lee will get minutes at the three (much like he did under Adelman). With Dragic capable of playing both guard spots, don't be surprised if some minutes open up for Flynn. And if they do, I'm anxious to see what he can bring. He was a poor fit in the triangle from the get-go. Hopefully, a fresh start is just what he needs.
How has Flynn been looking in practice? I thought I saw some note somewhere saying that Flynn was looking good.
Dragic should be dealt. Im a fan if Flynns really think he will come out firing this year, played in a system he wasn't used to an has had injury issues. Go Rockets!
Dragic was averaging something like 12-7-9 as a starter last season. He has a ton of upside which Flynn dosent.
Does it really make financial sense? Isn't Dragic an unrestricted free agent after this year? The guy could be offered a pretty decent contract and suddenly he becomes more expensive to retain. Specially compared to Flynn, who is still on his rookie contract.
Why? He can turn out to be something special here. He averaged 13pts 4 as a rookie in a system he didn't fit well in, and then he was hurt most of the time in his sophomore season . I believe he can up those stats this season if he gets pt. In other words, the dragic right now has more value so he would be easier to move.
...Flynn was one of the top 3 PG prospects in his class. He is still only 22. Dragic has pretty much reached his ceiling of a lack luster starter and a really good back up point guard.
Why not keep them both? Dragic can play some minutes at the two when other teams go small. We are gonna need fire power, especially if we move Kevin Martin. However, if we are in a trade the likely scenario is that Dragic gets moved as mentioned earlier, because it almost already happened once.
Dragic isnt that much older. Also Flynn showed nothing last season and most people are not optimistic he will amount to anything. Dragic has size can play both sides of the ball and is a very good rebounder. His game is far more polished.
I think the end of last year proved that Courtney Lee needs as many minutes as the Rockets can afford behind Martin at the 2, and this is a make or break year for T-Will as well. There just aren't enough minutes to play the 11th man on the bench, which would be Jonny Flynn.
Flynn and Lowry are too close in size --Lowry is more muscular and Flynn is faster. Dragic is a much better change of pace than Flynn. He is much taller and a better floor general. Defense is about the same.
