So this means he will sign a ten year contract extension. When is Pancakes EVER right?

I have never heard him called Pancakes ever. I like it though. There has never been a more haughty fat man in the world.

Wade is not a head coach. I hope he chooses to stick around, but I was thinking this right after we won. The temptation to coach again and the fact that he'd get offers based on his DC gig alone is a lot to weigh.

Unless we win the Superbowl I just don't see this happening.

I just hope that the team(s) that come calling are crap, and giving him a raise will make him want to stay at least one more year.

Wade Phillips actually has a great record as a head coach. He's just had a lot of postseason failure. We can't really say the Cowboys have been better off without him. They are the same team they always were.

I wouldn't be surprised to see him get another chance, but I think when you have this much success as a coordinator, you are better off taking big-time money doing that.

Plus, Wade is just not head coaching material. The way the Cowboys quit on him was an indictment of his leadership. People can try and blame it all on Jerry Jones (who was part of the problem) but I disagree.

Maybe, but I don't really buy it.

Some guys are just suited to be coordinators and after so many tries as a head coach I don't know why a team would try him again. If Dom Capers name didn't come up after the defense he put together in Green Bay (until this year), I don't think Wade will get a head job either.

Wade had his shot. Unless maybe some second tier college comes calling.

I don't think it's going to happen. Even at 10-3, the Texans are flying so low under the national media radar, he will still be remembered for his tenure in dallas even if we win the Superbowl.

Plus, he loves it here and IIRC (is that the right acronym for 'if I remember correctly?) he even said in interviews last summer that he's always wanted to finish his career in Houston.

Like someone else said...why didn't Dom Capers get any offers after his defense won the Superbowl last year?

The only way fans get excited about bringing in coordinators as head coaches is if they have a clean record as a head coach. We're pretty lucky in that Wade, much like Dom, would be considered a retread if someone brought him in as HC. Fans don't like retreads.

Seems to me it's been likely for at least a handful of weeks that interest in Wade Phillips would escalate given the turnaround the Texans have made and his seeming direct effect on that turnaround.

In many ways there are parallels to what happened with Kevin Sumlin the farther the Coogs went into their season and the more they won.

It'll be interesting to see what happens, but I think there are teams out there who will want Wade as head coach.

I pray that he can be convinced to stay in Houston, and certainly if any team would have a best chance of keeping him the Texans would be that team (given his roots). That is, if he were elsewhere in the same capacity as with the Texans, he'd have no deep ties as with Houston and could likely be more easily lured away.
