After watching *yech*, Steve pass to people that didn't exist, I think that his new nickname is Entrega de Balon.

Which player are you most comfortable with holding the ball? Which player do you expect to make the best decision?

Yao probably has more knowledge about the fundamentals of the game than the rest of the team combined. The only bad decision I have seen him make is that fadeaway jump shot at the end of the Clipper game. Yao has to take that to the hole and draw the foul.

The rest of the Rockets (except Nachbar) rely on athletic ability with little thought going on.

Great poll idea, in my opinion.

I voted Yao. I can't believe the court sense and awareness he has at such a young age.

Achebe.......what the heck did you put Mooch on there for? He doesn't qualify as most intelligent player even if he was THE ONLY ONE on the list!!!!!

Ming could have driven, but he would have gotten the ball stolen...he's 7'6. He had a good look, just missed. I like the fact he had the confidence to take it.

Nachbar? He hasn't exactly wowed me with his intelligence. What has he shown you that makes you think he's smarter than the rest of the players, except for Yao?

This is a hard issue to think about, it's not as black and white this poll makes it seem. Yao is the most fundementally sound player on the team for his position as a big man on offense, but he needs to learn some more about defense though he isn't as far behind as some of the veterans on this team. I can't say that Yao is the best playmaker overall. He can see the court better than anybody on this team, but that's like comparing the vision of a mouse on the ground to an eagle in the sky.

As far as the question goes, I always feel comfortable when Mo Taylor or Steve Francis have the ball, they both can hit clutch shots and they have shown great ability at getting Yao the ball wide open under the basket for what has become a 100% shot, a Yao Ming dunk. We ought to name his jams for him.

 Who voted for Moochie and KT?? Anyways, Yao seems to be the best fundamental player out there. Oh, and get off Yao's case Rockets3511... he's a rookie in the NBA after all.

This guy is an idiot. He has nothing to say except bash Yao. Rockets didn't lose because Yao did not score alot. They lost because of missed free throws and turnovers.

So, it's the way he sits on the bench? or is it the look on his face as he sits on the bench that doesn't exactly wow you?

The fact that he's on the bench and not in the game tells me that the rest of the team must know something more about basketball than he does. All I was asking is why do you think Nachbar has more intelligence than everybody else on the team besides Yao?

Well it's hard to have an opinion on someone if you have never seen them play. I will not put him on the list with the rest of the fundamentally challenged Rockets until I see him play, thats all.

When I saw this thread I thought this should be Ming in a landslide and no votes for Moochie. I was half right.

Rice is clearly the smartest player on the team but Yao is a close second. This is the PRIMARY reason I love to watch international players play. There are much more team oriented and have strong fundamentals.

Thanks Clutch, BF*, Smegg, et. al. for your replies. I agree that Yao has nearly been coached to perfection. I see alarms going off in the minds of USA basketball when Yao steps on the court.

I voted for Glen, because I think that it will take the vet to remind Steve and Cut-tino to pass to their superior.

It is games like this, I believe, where many people walk away with the impression that Steve and Kenny made big shots. To be honest, I don't know if we have to make big shots. Why not give it to the big man, and let him let everyone else make easy shots? Big shots like Cuttino hits 1/10 times or Moochie hits 1/1000 times are great for some perverse appreciation of Cat like heypartner, Smeggy, 03 and TheCat have developed. But damn!

I live in Utah, where playing effectively might not get you mating points... but it gets you to the damn playoffs. Play the game like Yao! Play the game like Rice!
