Do you think signing Marc Gasol to 4-years, $55M is a good deal for the Rockets?

I actually think they prefer his max contract to the contracts of Gay or even Randolph. The only way they are parting with him is, when he want to leave.

There is this slim chance, that he didn`t sign their contract because he wants to leave. But I think even then they`d right now match any offer and see what to do with him later.

Very very true... but who says he plays decently in those 4 years? He'll still put up the stats he needs to to be respectable, but I haven't seen too many teams win a ring with a very disgruntled super star... I'm not saying he is that star, but whose to say he can't be that star...

If having cap space in 2012 is used to facilitate a trade I'm ok with that logic, but having it for no other reason than to have it is crazy. Lets face it. the Rockets have to sell tickets and the illusion of being competetive or atleast having a chance to be sells tickets. In other words it sells hope or a dream. By simply tanking or playing the young guys will get old real fast. You have to understand the Les doesn't want to not make money while the team matures. He has to make a splash which will keep everyone interested. Being frugal financially for 2012 won't sell tickets in 2011!

Winning cures a lot, and Memphis is pretty danged good, up there with OKC as teams on the rise.

You have got to be kidding me.

Memphis isn't even close to the same level as OKC.

Memphis boards said when he first came into the league, he was excited to play for Memphis and try and succeed where his brother didn't.

Also mentioned that he didn't want to play with Pau.

Clippers too, and maybe the Wolves. We're stagnant.

Did you see the playoffs last year? They are on the rise, in that next group of teams that will be challenging the big wigs in the WC.

It is the Grizzlies. They have done some questionable things in their history. Either way I doubt Morey makes this move without a backup plan. Grizzles probably will wait until day 3 to match just to piss us off but I think Morey is always thinking and it is obvious, he really wants a quality center.

Took OKC to the limit..7 games..or did you miss that?

and yeah like was previous stated, they didn't have Rudy Gay which would've been a huge difference.

Read over the Grizz thread. There is only an iota of doubt surrounding Gasol wanting to be in Memphis. No doubt whatsoever that the Rockets offer would be matched.

    Prognosis - slim to none.

The problem is that Gasol is not going to sign an offer sheet.

The Grizz have already offered him 5 years and $70+ Million, why in the world would he sign an offer for 4 years and considerably less money.

Sure the agent may say....Of course Marc would like to play in Houston, see if you can get a deal done, and Memphis takes Morey's phone call and says, we are matching, and thanks for saving us 30+ million.

And Morey hangs his head further, looks at his assistant and says, "Get me Yao Ming's phone number"

My fear, and maybe it's unwarranted is that being popular and letting talent mature are two mutually exclusive items. I really hope I'm wrong, but personally I think our history speaks for itself. We have never really attracted a free agent worth a damn to this market. We also have never seen what this team is like without a superstar or at least an up and coming player. Losses just seem like their in the cards. As much as we try and mitigate the damage, it is sort of a necessary process. When we try and limit losses we end up mortgaging our future with our young talent. I mean come on, we start off the season by sending our two strongest players out the door, what does that tell our young talent? I want to have faith in all this, I just feel like we are asking way too much of this team. We aren't LA, we can't transition without major losing seasons, I don't believe it can be done. BUT, I Hope and pray to anyone who listens that it can be done.

What I believe is that Marc Gasol is waiting not only to get the best economical offer, but also to see where does his brother land.

I'm pretty sure he'd accept to loose some cash in exchange of leading a franchise alongside brother Pau.

If Pau stays in the Lakers as everything points out; he'd probably resign with the Grizz (if not, Z-Bo's signing would have been useless).

And if brother Pau stays in L.A. and Marc receives an offer from, I don't know, let's say Mavs or another contender, he'd accept it before Grizz's.

No time to be depressed after a long lockout

I've yet to read that we've officially made an offer. Perhaps I missed it. My understanding is that we're making noises about it, while trying to get Marc via a sign and trade. The quote from the owner sounds like he wouldn't rule out a sign and trade, asuming he likes what he'd get out of it. Guess we'll see.
