The problem is Morey is not doing what is best for the rockets in the long term he is desperate to save his job. Gasol is 31 and doesn't want to be a rocket Nene is injury prone and is good not great. This deal might make the rockets better next year but in the long term we would have little to no flexibility with Nene and gasol's contract. 15 million a year should only be spent on franchise players it's just too much for Nene. I would rather have Luis at around 8 million then either one of those guys and their massive contracts. Gasol is on the downside and Nene would be vastly overpaid, I thought Morey was into statistical analysis, I guess he didn't analyze that he is overpaying in terms of players and money. In the end I can't really blame Morey he is just desperate trying to save his job at all costs. He knows his days are numbered and he is willing to destroy this franchise in order to save his job
I dont like the Trade. We are trading the Top scorers of the Rockets. I mean We could offer as much for Nene. Scola is way better than soft gasol if we have a good defender backing him up

I would have put Nene in there instead of PPat....and yeah, I think that lineup has a 5 seed ceiling....doesn't mean they get it, but they are at that level. Heck, I think they are in that level now.....with the roster as configured. DD
I think you're being WAY overly optimistic. The Lakers, Spurs, Grizzlies, Kings, Trailblazers, Thunder, Clippers & Mavs all destroy us on the depth chart. Who out of those teams do you feel we'd beat out?
Look I think we generally agree on this trade and what it does for us etc. For me, the Rox finish last year made me feel they could get to playoffs if just left alone to gel. Doesn't mean they would contend, but they would make it. The only teams clearly better than the Rox as assembled: Are: Mavs OKC Lakers Spurs The rest of the teams are in the mix based upon injuries, chemistry etc..etc..etc... DD
Memphis & the Clippers clearly have more talent. You can even make the argument Minnesota has a better balance of young talent. Adding Nene doesnt change the fact we're still undersized at SG & SF. Let's not compare benches either
I wouldn't mind Morey getting fired. He has a directive from Les that seems clear to me: you can't re-build. Hat's off to Les for not having a losing team, since Steve & Cat went down in the same year. If I were Morey I'd quit, but he's doing his job. Just tank baby.
I am not jumping on the "Fire Morey" Bandwagon just yet. However, to those of you saying that Morey turned Spanoulis, Landry and Brooks into Pau don't kid yourselves. Martin was received with Landry Dorsey One of the largest expiring contracts of all time (The biggest reason this trade went down) Dont forget that Dorsey was the product of a terrible trade for the Rockets. We could have been sitting with our original pick Batum or Arthur, both much more productive and valuable players than Joey Dorsey. Horrible trade by Morey. The other pick from the 2008 Draft was Donte Greene who was sent to the Kings along with Bobby Jackson and the pick that would end up being another productive player in Omri Casspi, for the likes of a rental on Ron Artest. Id say we lost in that trade as well. Moreys turning the Rockets into the Astros IMHO. Not developing a future and swinging for the fences for players past their prime. Ask Oklahoma City or Sacramento what a less than desirable cities formula for success is. Oklahoma has nearly completed the process and the Kings are poised to do so soon. You have to go through the growing pains to become a success. The only way to win is with a cornerstone superstar and the Rockets do not and will not have this or a way to get one in the near future before of after this trade . We need to draft in the top 3 or we will never build a winner. Next years draft is rumored to be one of the best in a long time. The Rockets have no picks.
