    Don't vote if you're a Chinese! ÖйúÈËÇ벻ҪͶƱ!

Just want to survey how many Americans are mixing up Chinese surnames and first names. Please vote, then scroll down to see the answer, DON'T CHEAT!

As many of us saw, livestats was halted in nba.com for almost the first half last night; and Yao Ming became "Mr Hide" in yahoo's live stats for the whole first quarter.

I'm pretty sure that the mess came from the confusion somewhere in the stats database. There is an explicit example in Rockets' pic lib:
    http://photostore.nba.com/source/PODTeam.aspx?L1=rockets

There're two 11s there, one is "11 Ming Yao", another being "11 Yao Ming".

Azadre you're right, but you should not reveal the answer that HIGH ABOVE! Some voters might see your answer before voting...

In China, family names (surnames) come first, to show respect to their parents.

You can call him "Ming Yao" in western style. I'll also appeciate it if you call him "Yao Ming" showing your respect to Chinese traditions. Either way, don't mix things up please...

Azadre, you shouldn't have posted that...

The vote was 2-2, then 4-3 before you posted it. No one gets it wrong afterwards...

This is an insulting post if ever there was one. "I just want to survey how many of you Americans are dumba$$es."

    Whatever. Here's a better question:

Q: What will the majority of NBA players be calling Yao Ming in a few years?

A: "Your highness." Or "Ming-With-a-Ring." Or maybe just "Sir."

I am a Chinese and I wanna specify that only HAN Chinese have their family name first. For instance, Mengke Bateer is a Mongol and Bateer is his family name, but Wang Zhizhi should be Mr. Wang. Don't mix up!

Not to be rude, but do a search. As others have said, there have been a few threads discussing this in the past few months.
