thank you for that. i've been sitting here contemplating that fact while I watch OU roll, but i was too lazy to search for it.
The road opponents record looks so glamorous because of Ohio State's 13-0. If you take them out, the records are almost identical. And if you take away the OSU game, they still average just 30 points on the road, compared to 50 at home. Basically, your record is inflated because of their game at Ohio State, and even if you take them out of the equation to make the records similar, there's still a huge gap.
It sounded like the Fiesta chairman wanted the national game to be OU and Miami, not OSU. Can he do that?
by the same argument: "The home opponents record looks so glamorous because of Texas' 9-2. If you take them out, the records are nowhere near identical. Basically, your record is inflated because of their game with Texas" stupid arguments can be done both ways.
unless he secretly controls how the BCS numbers are manipulated... no. i wouldn't put it past him to have some influence though.
And that of course eludes the original point. Tech's points per game against opponents besides Ohio State on the road are twenty points a game less than their points per game at home, against teams with almost identical records. In the last 11 games, Tech's opponents' records (home and road) are virtually identical. However, Tech has won more games at home, and scored over 20 ppg more. How the fact that they played a kickoff classic game at Ohio State diminishes that fact I do not understand. Is there anyone that knows the link to the Tech BBS? If there's on Tech fan that doesn't think they play significantly better at home, regardless of opponent, I'd like to see them.
Hmmmm you sure about that?? I think Tech had Texas' number this year even if they played in Poland. Sucks to lose doesnt it?
Yeah, I'd pretty much bet everything I have. Tech scores 50 ppg at home, 30 ppg on the road. 6-1 vs. 2-4 record. Lubbock's been a thorn in our side for years. There's no doubt, imo, that homefield advantage meant more than four months. I mean, Kingsbury had to play perfect to beat us, and do you really think he's that great if 80,000 people are screaming in his face every time he comes to the line. Drew, I give Tech all the respect in the world for beating us. But Lubbock was a tremendous part of it. It was a great game, but the efforts of fans like yourself pushed Tech over the top.
Understandable Cat, but Im sick and fuc#ing tired of Aggie and Longhorn fans making excuses when we LEGITIMATELY beat them every year (and Im not talking about you personally). Even if we did get our asses waxed by OU, we are still the best team in Texas this year, and nobody can take that away from us.
Yeah, I understand. Homefield is not an excuse... it's part of the game. And it's props to your fans for making it so tough. Tech proved on the field that they were the best team in Texas, and that's all you need. Who cares what the rest of us are saying... ya'll have scoreboard. That's what matters. And hopefully you guys get to go to a better bowl than A&M.
That is some magical home field they have there in Lubbock that could make the UT defense play like the Houston Cougars. That was the most dangerous crowd in the history of college football. Major props to the Tech crowd for scoring those 42 points on the UT defense.
Well, an offense's performance can be very dictated by the quarterback's ability to audible at the line of scrimmage and to just be able to hear when someone may be coming. If the situation is reversed, Kingsbury may not be throwing for 6 touchdowns if he can't audible when Texas sends the blitz, etc. Texas beat Tech 42-7 last year in Austin. Three years ago (in Austin), it was another blowout. This year, Tech won in Lubbock, two years ago, we won by only single digits, and four years ago we lost. Do you really think that it's just a huge coincidence that Tech is ALWAYS a better team when it's the game is in Lubbock? Considering they score over 20 ppg more at home and have a 6-1 record there (compared to 2-4 on the road) I'd say it's more likely that Tech is a better team at home.
You're right, UH only allows 35 points and 415 yards/game not 42 points and 600 yards. UT's defense was worse than the Houston Cougars.
That might have something to do with the fact that UT was playing one of the most prolific offenses in the nation on the road. Hell, if I use OU's stats against A&M they appear to be on the level of UH.
