The main reason why Morey is pushing hard for Gasol is that Nene is pretty much in the package deal. Remember how Mchale was seen at the Denver airport (we have a picture of it in one of our threads). Should be obvious to everyone by now that this was the plan all along. Even non Rockets fans have already pretty much resigned to it.
At the time when everyone was too busy laughing at the Grizzlies. They tried to claim they were very high on Marc Gasol whose rights were traded to them from the Lakers. The Lakers also weren't backdoor reaming the Grizzlies in the financial aspect. The $$$-side matters.

Even at $12 million/yr Nene is overpaid. If the dealing going down means getting Nene I hope it falls through.

the originial trade never worked as per CBA rules. NOLA had to send back to LA either Okafor or even probably Scola. Sure LA was unloading some big contracts, but they were really really good contracts. Odom is underpaid and Gasol, you know, allstars are underpaid in this league when you compare them to their on-court production (e.g. james and wade). You ask any contending team to take on Gasol or Odom and they'll be more than happy to do it. NOLA wasn't getting any garbage contracts back, at all. In fact, if they sent back Okafor to the Lakers, they'd have unloaded a bad contract.
