Asians are very segregated as a whole. Obviously some of them blended in, especially those who take advantage of free food/English lessons in Christian churches. But for the most part, Asians in this country are very segregated. Just 1.75 cents from an Asian.

    A short-sighted idea.

I don't see the need to force it because, in the long-run, there wont be different races; we'll all have mixed our DNA as one.

Racism is old. Never judge a person by skin color, only on how much money they have/ how big their boobs are.

More accurately, white people, black people, asian people, etc., will all end up having kids together and producing, in the long-run, people who have characteristics of all these groups. Its been happening for a very long time. It will continue.

I agree with your initial point that "forced" integration can't work beyond simply removing existing Jim Crow type laws, and I know the second part of this comment is pretty tongue-in-cheek; but at the farthest ends of the "spectrum" it's completely untrue.

That may happen beyond our lifetime, but working to make things better within our lifetime isn't exactly short-sighted.

This already has been happening. Especially in America, there will still be people with dark brown skin, people with blue eyes and pale skin, people with slanted eyes...etc etc.

Humanity will always group people into races and groups. Even if you get rid of every non-white race, then people will divide by hair color or some other silly ish.

Yes, america is still a segregated country. Its pretty obvious, although mass media generally shys away from such troubling issues.the difference between racism 50 yrs ago and now is that it is much more subtle. Which imo is much more dangerous, because these ideas/stereotypes of race are injected tactfully in daily mass media. Whether it is movies, shows, news, commercials, articles etc there usually is some kind of portrayal of a given people.whether positive or negative.

with regards to asian americans: i find this subject of race relations with regards to america to be quite interesting. First off i am not asian, just in case the reader is thinking i have some kind of asian- centric agenda. i will define all asians as- chinese. I do this because that is the american stereotype which often lumps all asians into one nationality. For example, the most famous asian derogatory term used is: 'chinaman'.

I argue that asians will become the new boogy man for the american public to fear. Essentially, taking the place of the current boogy man- islamic jihadists. We will likely see an increase in movies which villfy asians especially in action movies( as if we havent already seen enough vietnam/ww2 flicks). For instance, a scene in the movie the dark knight. When harvey dent is in the court room making a case against organized crime in gotham, an assassination attempt is made against him. Forunately for harvey, the gun jammed before it could be fired. According to harvey, if you want to kill someone with a gun you should buy an american gun-not chinese. This is just one small example of the kind of negative portrayal we see against chinese in particular. the general stereotypes of asians are vast in hollywood. i am sure i could write a whole article, and fill it with many examples of negative portrayals/steretypes against asians in hollywood. But that is not the topic and i chose this particular example because of this movies popularity and subtlness in its slandering of asians

i see this fear stemming out of various fronts- a military threat, an economic threat, an american social threat.

A military threat- at the most fundamental strategic level we see china as a threat. China's borders encompass a huge territory, filled with a substantial amount of recources. China has the largest population of any country by far, with an abled body workforce that could also serve in its military. With this booming population and infrastructure, china will undoubtedly need to pursue more recources to maintain its growth. If you look at the recent US involvement in libya, gadaffi had publicly stated that he would rather pursue investment with the chinese, russians, indians rather than the US because of its agressive middle eastern foreign policy. The day that the libyan uprisings began, china immediatly pulled out an estimated 30 thousand of its citizens working in libya. China had vast interest in libyas oil, and were vocal in there oppositon to US military support of the libyan rebels. Was NATO's intervention in libya partially motivated to side swipe chinas investments in libya? Mlitarily, will this become a match made in hell? Where a global hegemonic force is being threatened by a rising star who seeks new markets and recources? Heads of our military have already acknowleged this threat, but china has been on the back burner of our military for so long -now china cannot be ignored militarily or econmically.

economic threat- the asians do stuff cheaper, especially the chinese. Why? Overpopulation that has a substantial amount of impoverished people who are willing to work for extremely low wages. During the jordan era of basketball, the bulls had many factories in china manufacturing its franchise merchandise for dirt cheap while its profits were astronomical. A dark topic in NBA often not talked about. Not only are manual/unskilled laborers willing to work for less, they are also willing to work substantially more hours, with less benefits, and less complaints. On top of this, the chinese seem to be catchng up in innovations of high tech industries snd space travel. China is now beginning to see a growing middle class that can afford to drive arond in SUV's. They undoubtedly are far from our countries general prosperity but they are on a steady rise. Their currency is strong, their output is great, and their economy is growing fast. Possibly faster than we would like to admit.

A social threat- as a student at UH, i often hear stereotypes of asians. Not often and not all the time, but i do hear this stereotype probably more than anything else IF mentioned. Its kinda like the group that everone can identify to be against. Some of them stick to themselves stick with eachother because they know people from previous schools or communities they went to or lived in. Sme of them are groups of students who are studying abroad and find other students who are in the same boat. But again its kinda like the group that everyone can hate on, because they are percieved to make such good grades and blah blh blah. Although ive talked to many asians at school who are always in the same boat as me, last minute studying, stressed out etc...

So anyways they will most likely be the next boogyman following the commies, japanese, blacks, muslms, etc. Its like white people and black people identifyng to hate on latinos because they take jobs. And since you know- black people and white people have had such a good history with eachother and like to play football and basketball witheachother. They can identify to not like latins, because they play soccer and take jobs, speak spanish, are cathlics. Well i see a similiar trend here, except we see this new foreign threat from asians who have a different culture than our own whos value systems are quite different from ours.

Asians are something that whites, blacks and latinos can hate together!

Asians can also buy semi automatic guns, and the bullets from the guns can get into anyone's body regardless of his/her race, you know?

I often wonder about this. Cause I believe the same thing.
We, humans, will ALWAYS find SOMETHING to discriminate against.

If we woke up tomorrow and everyone was the exact same skin color
    I think within a few years we'd here. .. LEFT HANDED PEOPLE ARE NOT . . . .
    HAzel eyes are an indication of . . . . .

Accurate answer: not if you were born after the seventies, live in a mid-sized city, dress and talk like a literate adult or have half-way decent credit; work in public education, healthcare, government in any large city, county or state office, non-specialty retail or food service, the pop music industry or played D-1 or 1-AA college or reasonably competitive high school football or basketball.
