The local news here is bascially saying that Yao is one bad-mo-fo! http://www.sunspot.net/sports/baske...23,0,1590429.story?coll=bal-sports-basketball
List Of BBS's From SonicsCentral.com Crossing Enemy Lines . . . « on: May 18th, 2002, 03:02 am » -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Okay, enemy is laying it on a bit thick. For those times when you want to see what other teams are thinking, or perhaps are looking for a scouting report of a new player, I'll list some websites/message boards maintained by fans of other NBA teams that are similar to SonicsCentral: Places I've Visited: Boston Celtics: The Mean Green Message Boards Ezboards; probably slightly more active than here . . . group seems to be high in the knowledge department. IGTC Mailing List Not a message board per se, and tends towards longer posts/e-mails, but definitely very good analysis and well-educated fans. Dallas Mavericks: Dallas-Mavs.com Forums Have us listed in their version of this . . . pretty high level of analysis. MavTalk The official message boards of the Mavericks . . . which means Cuban may be posting under an alias. Nice graphics . . . a little confrontational. Denver Nuggets: NuggetsHoops.com Well, the first thing you need to know is they still have Issel, Van Exel, and LaFrentz on the header. Infrequently updated, not much content . . . no message board. Houston Rockets: ClutchCity.net The Holy Grail of fan websites; featured on a number of occasions in Sports Illustrated and spearheaded an effort to get the Rockets a new arena. Extremely active message board, though it has the reputation of being . . . unaccepting . . . of new members. I've been treated well in posting there, however. A wealth of information throughout the site; I could waste hours there and I don't even like the Rockets! TheRocketGuy TRG is a good friend of mine, and he works extremely hard on covering the team. If you're looking for commentary on the Rockets, TRG.com is a better source than CC.net (though actually it mostly links you to other places, such as his column at BskBALL.com (which, for those of you who haven't noticed, is the site I started at and still write for)). No message board, as TRG et. al. use BskBALL's. Los Angeles Lakers LakersGround.net This is its own site, but it's totally built around the very active message board. Very passionately pro-Lakers; I wouldn't post there as a Sonics fan. Some very intelligent guys there, and the statistical reports after each game make me weak in the knees. The board is tempramental, however, and I can't get in from home. Memphis Grizzlies Grizzlies.com On the Boards A site run by the Grizzlies; looks like pretty good quality, though oddly most of the posts seem to be in the Spanish section. Our own EJLover appears to be taking up residence there now that Watson is gone. Minnesota Timberwolves: TimberwolvesCentral So the truth comes out . . . I must have copied this name, though (honestly) I never visited this place before starting SonicsCentral. Very professional-looking, though the content is not as impressive as it appears at first glance; most of the 'articles' are just links to the Star-Tribune. But it is fun to see them lust after GP in the message board. One recent post suggested they could get not only Payton, but also Mason or the Sonics' first-round draft pick (which, of course, is already in Toronto, as you know) for Szczerbiak, the salary spot of a retired Terrell Brandon, and Marc Jackson/Joe Smith. (Pause for laughter. ) New Jersey Nets: JoeNetsFan.com If ClutchCity is, in my opinion, by far the best fan site, JoeNetsFan.com is my favorite. Loads of original commentary, which I am particular to. A funny, angry Nets fan sharing his every emotion with the world. I love it! Also, the guy who runs it posted here once back in January. New Orleans Hornets: NewOrleansHornets.com Yes, already. This site helped support the move, and gained a great deal of national attention during a flap over some comments made by David Aldridge over New Orleans. Graphically, this site is as good as about any out there, but little in the way of original content. The message board is frighteningly active -- 27,000 posts already (!) However, they don't allow any swearing; even the disguising as is done at the P-I. What squares! Orlando Magic: Orlando Magic Jam Not very much commentary; most of the appeal lies in the message boards. But if they finish up the 2001-02 player reviews which they've started, I'll be much impressed. . . . Portland Trailblazers: Blazers Online Very popular, but, with all due respect, I'm not sure why. Very nice graphics, but short on original content. Message board essentially empty. Sacramento Kings: (My brief note: The Kings seem to have the most internet-savvy fans of any team. The overall quality of Kings sites/message boards is remarkably impressive to me.) The Bleacher Mob Maybe the most creative name of any fan site. Lots of creative stuff and good current commentary on the frontpage. However, the heart of this site is the message board, which is very active. I find it very difficult to follow personally, because all the day's posts are done in one thread. Very odd, but it works for them. Also, the first site to link to SonicsCentral in our fledgling infancy. KingsFans Basically just a message board, but very active and intelligent. Kings fans, for the most part, know their hoops. KingsTalk Just as they advertise, talk. Again, just a message board, but active and intelligent. San Antonio Spurs: Dusty Garza's Spurs Report After ClutchCity, I'd say that SpursReport.com is the second-most professional fan website on the internet. The graphics are just fantastic. No news/recaps -- they rely on the local paper -- but lots of columns. Not as long as ours, but still very good commentary, and you know I love that. Very active message board . . . at times passion can stand in the way of their reason, however. Garza has a lot of access; as I understand it, he works for one (or more?) of the local radio stations, so he gets priveliged information. SAHoops.com/SpursCentral The main page currently hasn't been updated in quite some time, but they are right now undergoing a 'makeover' with some very small help from yours truly. The message board is not as active as SpursReport, but, as we know here, that's not necessarily a bad thing. Also, very understanding of our good friend Groovy when he posted there during the series and at least a couple of the quality Spurs fans who posted here during the series were from there. I'm expecting good things when the remodel is completed. Utah Jazz: JazzHoops.com Another site essentially built around a message board (which, if you didn't know, has never been my intent with SonicsCentral). Quality discussion in said board. Utjazz.com Shares a message board with the previous site; otherwise, not a lot of original stuff. ****************** As for finding places for other teams, I'll leave that up to you (with some help). Two good resources for links are: Bleacher Mob - Forum Madness and http://www.reviewmarks.com
