Exactly. Good scorers like Martin are a dime a dozen. He's one of the more efficient ones due to his free throw shooting, but he's still an incredibly one dimensional player. You HAVE to give up something to get good players, we missed the playoffs for a reason last year. We are a flawed team with too many rotational players. We have to consolidate that talent somehow and see what players can actually make the jump and prove that they are really "assets."
If the deal was to go through. Using amnesty on Thabeet to offer Marc Gasol a max contract might have possibly worked. I know Marc's restricted, but at what point do Memphis say no to matching an offer. A max on Marc Gasol is overpaying him, but i think Memphis would cave at max money. It would've been worth every penny to have the Gasol pairing.
did you even watch any games last year? lowry improved big time on his 3 point shooting and he's pretty clutch as well.
Martin's production is going to drop this year.... The rule changes are gonna prevent him from getting all those cheap free throws. Morey really needs to work something out so that Patterson gets significant playing time. He is a future all star. Definitely seen a lot of horribly ignorant comments on here... Lowry can't shoot? It's like some ppl didn't even watch the team last year. Also seen a lot of hate on the trade that wasn't. People, the team as constructed right now is no better than 7 seed, at best. Even if Morey signs a center they are no better than a 6 seed. The Gasol trade made the Rox a better team. At least it gave them a chance to be a better team. Now they are stuck with the same roster with too many role players and not enough minutes for everyone to get playing time. Lee, Patterson, Hill, Williams, Morris all need minutes to develop and get better. I'm really hoping Morey finds another trade that he can pull off. The point isn't to just unload players, but to get quality in return and shape the roster so that the young talent can grow and develop. The Gasol trade would have done that. It seems like 90% of the ppl on here are missing that point.
You took the words straight out of my mind, the people who are opposed of this trade think that because we were shipping out our two top scorers on our team that we were going to automatically make Pau our new franchise player. In actual retrospect we were going to be able to sign higher end free agents to a possibility of playing with a much more IMPROVED roster. We may as be irrelevant this season, unless one of our draft picks turn out to have monster seasons OR one or two of the 09 picks we were able to get (out of 4) mentally get it together we aren't going anywhere fast. Too bad to get into the playoffs but also too good to get a better draft pick..
