If you are getting Gasol, why would you let Martin go. Martin would be an even better player playing alongside a quality big.
Didn't want to get traded or didn't want to get traded to Houston??? Big difference, it may be nothing against the Rockets or the city...
Pau Gasol would have significantly improved this team. Once he played with our guys here like Lowry, Lee, maybe Nene, he would have been fine with playing here. I still think we would be better with the trade.
I loved the trade. Honestly, I can kind of see where Pau was coming from. A Rockets team centered around Pau with no Martin or Scola isn't exciting. However, Houston would have probably grown on him if we had signed Nene to pair with him in the frontcourt.
Paul is softer than tissue paper, even if we had landed Nene I would have been against this trade, it makes no sense.
This would've worked 4 years ago but THIS AIN'T THE RIGHT MOVE for the future. You can't keep collecting assets and come back with a 31 year old Pau Gasol. How is that improving your team?
Plenty We actually have a few players at both of those spots (projected to play those spots anyway). I agree with trading away the older higher paid player (also throw Thabeet's salary via amnesty) to make not only minutes for the younger guys but salary cap space for either mid season trades or the next offseason.
This. Have people forgotten how he pouted through the Dallas series and played horribly? Really glad this whiny douche is not going to be a Rocket. And I realize the trade improved the Rockets position from a cap standpoint, but it still left the Rockets in 14th pick status. If you think a Nene/Gasol/Lowry core could compete for a championship or even be attractive to FA's you are really sipping the kool-aid. Team can't just be stuck acquiring a decent ho-hum core and pray that it will somehow interest star FA's. They need to tank.
