If we had a top 3 pick this year we would have taken either Kanter or Valanciunas. The BEST case scenario for Kanter and Valanciunas is: Pau Gasol. Anthony Davis wishes he could be as good as: Pau Gasol. Spoiler REBUILD COMPLETE
We are looking forward to next year.. Anthony Davis if he reaches his potential will be a much better player. The difference is he will be a force to reckon with for the next 15 years, while Gasol will remain on a all star level for the next 3 if we are lucky. We wanted to rebuild to have a shot at potential franchies guys like Barnes, Lamb, Drummond, Jones, ect.
Gasol is 33... I think those who are down on the deal would be ecstatic is Gasol was 21-26. Window isn't real large here with Gasol.
2012 is a stronger draft. Cuban has spoken about being pro-tanking. I wonder if that's what he's doing for next year's draft.
And just how old are those players? I want this team to either get really good or get really bad. Just tired of that middle zone. Would be nice to see Morey work with a top 5 pick. But, hey, I am pulling for him to make Les' scheme pay dividends.
Yes, all of them forces to be reckoned with for the next 15 years. Either that or the next Tyrus Thomas, Michael Beasley, Jeff Green, Shelden Williams. We can at least be reasonably certain that Pau Gasol will still be Pau Gasol for the next few years.
I am pretty sure he isn't 33. I am positive the Rocket wouldn't be able to acquire him at all if he was 21-26. EDIT: Yup, he is 31. Would you be down on building around a healthy, 31 year old Yao Ming, like the original plan?
He was drafted a year before our retired Yao Ming. Gasol is closer to retirement than an upcoming rookie for a rebuilding franchise.
Gasol is 31, same as Scola. Still think we gave up too much for this deal, it really comes down to who we get for the extra cap room.
Our retired Yao Ming would still be playing, and being built around, if not for his injuries. Would you prefer that, or dumping everyone for scraps to have a chance to draft high for some teenager with a chance to be as good as Gasol IS right now?
Gasol isn't going to lead us anywhere but another mediocre season. He's going to retire after this contract. Many NBA players retire in their 30s not just Yao Ming. It would be a rarity if they stayed past their 30s.
tank mode would be flipping gasol at the deadline to the clippers for the wolves unprotected first round pick, and the ending contracts of kaman and foye. imaging going into next summer with 2 VERY high draft picks (counting ours), and $29M in cap space? this move isn't tank mode if we offer our $11M to nene and he signs a 4 year deal. then we would still have a shot at the playoffs... and a few more years of mediocrity. i would rather go into tank mode. it's more fun than getting the 14th pick every year.
It's just a short term rental for a veteran that's on his way out at the end of his contract. It would have been good, if we had a star like Hakeem still on the team. It doesn't work when you have no other superstars. They keep trying to grab retiring vets with mixed results, but mostly poor. It's all a bunch of hype like the Mutombo, Barkley, and Pippen. We can add Gasol to another one of the retiring vets.
I think I was one of biggest "pro-tankers" In the forum. But since were clearly not heading down that route, I'm happy just to sheer for the rockets to win again. Hoping they make the playoffs (having said that since 2009).
