Part of me just died today. Later today, the Hayes to Sacramento deal becomes official too... Why so much bad crap gotta happen on such a beautiful day?
http://espn.go.com/nba/truehoop/miamiheat/story/_/id/7330117/memphis-grizzlies-shane-battier-plans-sign-miami-heat There is the ESPN link to him moving. Good luck shane...if the heat are to win, at least u deserve to win a ring too.
Seems to me this is just a lateral move compared to Miller last year. And it's possible they might've won with Battier last year. But it still leaves the Heat with major weakness at both the middle and at PG. As someone who's not a fan of superfriends, I think this is the move with the least upside for them. And downside isn't small. Battier's getting up there in ages and no longer ranks among the elite when it comes perimeter defense.
I'm so conflicted by this. I wish nothing but the best for Shane, but I just don't think I can be happy for the Heat.
I still have to say they didnt sign him just for his play...they obviously don't even need swingman. Riley wanted a player/coach type and he got him. Te heat needed that as much as they needed either a PG or pure SG and a center. Now they just have to wait for someone to come in at a discount and i don't think thats unlikely. Remember they did get to the Finals after all....They got a reality check and that alone would give them a different perspective/approach this year. Now the Mavs seems to be getting weaker and there still isn't a team that can really beat the Heat in the east. I'm not a fan of the super team, but the reality is this move definitely helps. They didn't need a huge improvement.
Wow. They just used their precious cap money to get Lebron a backup. No worries about that hole at the 1, 4 or 5. Let's blow it on a guy who will play sparingly!
Probably not. The point of the Thabeet trade was to dump Thabeet's salary in order to clear room to re-sign Marc Gasol, while in the process adding a quality vet to help make a playoff push. Gotta say. Worked out pretty well for the Grizzlies. Probably not. It's looking more and more likely that Dalembert is coming to the Rockets (just a guess).
My thoughts too. He can also be considered insurance if Mike Miller can't get healthy. Speaking of PG, Mario Chalmers is a RFA and he has some leverage on the Heat. It may take a while for his contract to work out.
Can the Heat handle someone with a sense of humor? This could really destroy their grim, angry-faced (and sometimes tearful) locker room.
ShaneBattier Shane Battier (Can't Wait !!!! (Bart Scott Voice)) RT @KingJames: S/O to my newest teammates @ShaneBattier. Happy and excited to have u apart of the Heat
