I hope they checked birth certificates of all these Latin players they acquiring... They all 10 years older than what their Drivers License says..lol
Lol because the Marlins landing Pujols would destroy the Astros chances at success. Just kidding but the thought of free agents signing somewhere hurting the Astros is funny to me.
It would be beneficial for our final year in the NL Central. Maybe he'll sign with the Angels and just continue to torment us.
lol my fault, would still love to see him play in the same league. He is one of the all-time great hitters in the game.
could be anything...but heads up... Stephen_Goff Stephen Goff The Marlins are going to make some type of announcement at 11:15 a.m. CT today in the media room at the Winter Meetings. EDIT...forget it...it's about Reyes
Not exactly. They'll get an artificial boost from a new stadium, but unless they put a lot of effort in connecting with the community (something notoriously difficult/poorly done in Miami in general), then it's a big failure. By all accounts the Marlins are acting like the Atlanta Thrashers -- not doing enough to build a connection to the people and surroundings (also the same problem with the Panthers hockey team which plays in the Everglades). The area around the ballpark is pretty seedy, but there is potential. There are a few streets within walking distance that could be a "Latin Wrigleyville" of sorts, but we'll see if there is any development. The ballpark location isn't great -- the team's preferred location was right on Biscayne Bay or in the heart of downtown. Where they are now is potentially easier to get to with a car, but not really walking distance from the main downtown area. Plus the mass transit is extremely disappointing and outdated. The city is just now finally connected the line to the airport.
think albert goes back to cards, think theres no question his agent used marlins to leverage the cards to spend. marlins might end up even offering a bit more money, but if the cards offer 220 mill i think he's going back to STL.
Jon_Heyman Jon Heyman No confirmation miami is out, as was reported. however, w/ diff in $ slight and no no-trade in miami, #cards clear favorite
Damn, I thought that was where it was. When I was in Miami, they had the location on their Metro Map as being on Biscayne Bay (near where the Heat play). I either misread the map, or it was labeled wrong. The location is way better than the old one, but the location isn't nearly as good as I thought. I agree about the transit system (No good way between the airport, the Dolphins Stadium, and downtown). It is great for traveling within downtown, but once you go elsewhere it involves long bus rides. At least you can walk from downtown now, not that you would want to. Edit: Well, at least the Heat have a great location.
The Heat's old arena was the most convenient, being right in front of a metro station. It's still fairly easy to get to a Heat game via mass transit and people do use it, but in general it's horribly underutilized (the most convenient arena to get to now is actually at the University of Miami). The city/county have tried to expand the lines around the city and up to the football stadium, but that's difficult to imagine given the financial impact. Plus there's no easy way to get to Miami Beach (they block any type of rail project for whatever reason). There's not much to see or do downtown, though certain developments and projects hope to increase action in the area. There's a lot of potential for the city, but the ballpark location was a bit of a disappointment -- unless public transit can be addressed.
I didn't spend a lot of time there. We were there for only a few days, and spent one day mostly eating and visiting shops. The next day we went to a Miami Hurricane football game, and got to learn just how fun public transit is to the football stadium was. We didn't look at the schedule, and assumed the Tri-Rail was like the Metro Mover and ran every 15-30 minutes (turns out it was like every 2 hours). Since we had just missed the train, we decided to take the bus, so we hiked down to the nearest bus that would take us to the stadium. Took nearly an hour for the bus to get there, and then an hour on the bus to get to the stadium. Riding back was super fun, since we all had to pack in like Sardines, and still couldn't fit everyone on the bus. I think it took us 2 hours to get back to our hotel in the Brickell neighborhood from the stadium. Needless to say, we drove when we went to the Dolphins game the next day. They do need subways or more rail desperately.
reportedly Pujols is going to the LA Angels All-Star slugger Albert Pujols agreed to terms on a 10-year deal worth $250 to $260 million with with the Angels. wow, not sure if i should make a new thread.
