How many shots does one need to be qualified to get on the www.nba.com league leader list? After the game last night, nba.com had an article and then said Yao is leading the league in field goal percentage. They had a link for that page right there and sure enough, Yao wasn't even listed.
I'm pretty sure if a rookie was leading the league in field goal percentage (ar anthing for that matter) he would be on the regular list. I remember Iverson's name on the scoring list in his rookie year.
Yao will lead the league after tonights game. One needs to be on pace to MAKE at least 300 field goals for the seasonto be considered i.e. an average of 3.66 per game. Yao is currently at 3.5 shots made per game. [red]He needs only 5 field goals today to qualify[/red] for tomorrow listing. Rookies are not excluded.
As of last night (after the Mavs game), the quota is 48 field goals made. Yao has 36 FGMs so far. Yao's Stats: GP MIN PPG PTS RPG REB APG AST STL BLK PF FGM FGA 10 173 8.9 89 5.2 52 0.5 5 1 7 28 36 50
If Fegwu's calculation is correct Yao only need to score 4 baskets tonite. Yao has made 36 already. To be on the list, you need to score 300 baskets per season (82) games. That is equal to: 36.58 / 10 games 40.24 / 11 games 43.90 / 12 games http://www.nba.com/playerfile/yao_ming/index.html
Given that Yao now has 36, and extra 4 would put him only at 40, not the 40.24 he would need. Thus, he needs 5. Of course, the other guy may also be correct, in that the quota is now at 48 FG or something like that. Who knows, who really cares, as long as he keeps it up and is properly utilized, he'll get there eventually.
wouldnt you guys think he would start to shoot at least 12 to 14 shots a game. Even if his fg% levels off at 60% that would still pretty much lead the league.
How many rookies, if any, have lead the league the league in FG percent. I'm pretty sure that Ming, as long as he PLAYS, will shoot like this all year. I'm pretty sure most rookies that lead the league in some significant category, have turned out the be good players; probably all stars... Now watch as someone pulls up some stat of some rookie that was number one in rebounds or something, then he never made it past his first season.
