Thabeet can't find the floor and all reports point towards him having a hard time understanding the ball is actually round.

Come on Bima play along. We know the Rockets can make what ever moves necessary to make as high a bid as needed since you already pointed out that they can get far enough under the cap to create 13 mil in space. Biedrins contract is only 9 mil a year so the Rockets can make as high of a bid as necessary if they want to. I don't suggest bidding higher than Thabeets salary but that is a separate debate.

Would you be happy with AB as the center going into next season?

He is a better rebounder / shot blocker than Chandler, Nene or Dalembert and takes very high percentage shots on offense? His issues revolve around his ability to stay on the court due to injuries and fouls and that's about it. He is also only 25 and a true 7 footer. There have been multiple reports listing him as a likely amnesty victim. I see no other player that fits our need any better than Biedrins and he could be a major steal if you could snag him for around 5 mil. It was not that long ago that teams were trying to dump Chandler for some of the same reasons the warriors have been rumored to want to rid themselves of AB, high salary and injuries.

So would you want him? Would he be worth the risk to you or not?

Really? In what way? He is not a better rebounder or offensive option and only slightly better blocking shots. Both are foul prone but AB is significantly younger and taller / bigger.

If Chuck goes ahead and signs elsewhere first (he's holding out hope that the Rockets can match his other offers), and if Morey truly thinks that Biedrins is a good value at "Thabeet money" (who knows, with 2012 cap flexibility being so important to him), then I suppose so.

However, please note that the Rockets CANNOT put in a claim on Biedrins, see if they have the winning bid and THEN amnesty waive Thabeet to create the cap room. The cap room must be in place FIRST.

If the Rockets think anything of Thabeet (and they do . . . albeit not very highly), then it's still a major risk. If you could get Dalembert with MLE money (while retaining the Battier TPE, the BAE and Hayes's Bird rights), then it might be better to pass on an amnestied Biedrins.

That said, I would like a guy like Biedrins playing C for the Rockets next year. Maybe Morey can pull that off.

IF Biedrins even gets amnestied, that is.

No. He seems to be injury prone and he provides zero offense.

Well for a start, Biedrins hasn't played 82 games since the 2006-2007 season, missing about 100 games over the past four years. Dalembert has played 82 games in 4 out of the past 5 seasons, only missing 2 games last year. Both players are 6'11" and about the same height.

Both players rebound at almost an identical rate and Dalembert is a much better and mobile defender. FG% may make it appear Biedrins is a better offensive option, but that is only because he takes all his shots very close to the basket. Dalembert takes more jumpshots and has a decent midrange-close jumper. Also, Biedrins is a horrible free-throw shooter at 50%. Dalembert shoots at an acceptable 70%.

Dalembert takes around 100 shots a year from 10-15 feet and makes about 40-45% of them. Biedrins has only made 3 shots from that range in the past five years!

I like Dalembert but he is 30 years old and he is what he is. Nothing wrong with him and if the Rockets could get him I would not complain. But I’m guessing he will demand more than the MLE. Biedrins is only 25 and is still getting better.

They have similar stats. The two areas you point out are free throws and games played. But Biedrins averages more points per minute at a higher f/g percentage. Both are quality big men IMO.

I like the fact that Biedrins will likely be much cheaper than Dalembert produces just as well and has more upside.

Anyone that just flat out wouldn't want Biedrins on our team is a fool. If you don't think he could make the Rockets better than you haven't been watching. Is he a anywhere near MAX player? Nope, but he knows it and so does everyone else.

Plus, I'd like to see McHale work with someone like Biedrins....who has no problem with the effort, but has always lacked in just general knowledge about basketball. Pretty much always just ran on pure athleticism and effort.

If we miss out on Dalembert, then he is our best option.

If Chandler agrees to that 60 million 4 year deal from GS, they will amnestry Andres....and the Rox could get him on the cheap.

GS are $19 million under the luxury tax threshold. If they're going to pay Biedrins that money anyway they might as well keep him on the bench and hope another will trade for him.

They are not going to want to tie up that much cap space on one possition. And if a team bids 6 mil for AB then the warriors would only be on the hook for the other three not the whole 9 mil. Players are not allowed to make extra money on this deal only guaranteed not to lose any.

how does amnesty work? is it like a silent auction? you get only one bid for a player or can you keep offering more to outbid another team
