Madonna: Could you spare 2 bucks?
Thursday, November 21, 2002 Posted: 11:51 AM EST (1651 GMT)

LONDON, England (Reuters) -- Multi-millionaire pop singer Madonna had to borrow money in a London restaurant after finding herself short of cash to buy a slice of cake for her son, a British newspaper reported on Thursday.

The Sun said Madonna told two sisters, Mimi and Titi Negussie, that she had forgotten her purse when she went into the restaurant with film director husband Guy Ritchie, their son Rocco and her daughter Lourdes.

"A woman came up and said, 'Excuse me, but you look like really nice people. Can I borrow some money? We forgot our wallets'," Mimi Negussie told the Sun.

Titi, who did not recognize the singer, gave the Material Girl a £2 coin to help her cover a £1.25 ($2) shortfall in her £5.25 bill.

A spokesman for Madonna told the Sun the sisters would be sent CDs and a check to cover the loan.

Michigan-born Madonna, now a UK resident, was the highest earning musician in Britain in this year's Sunday Times Pay List, with estimated annual earnings of £36 million.

now you know its got to be a slow news day when CNN is reporting this kind of thing!

Oh crap, I feel a Mastercard checkcard commercial coming on...

"Come on, I'm Madonna, just let me charge this piece of cake to a credit card because I forgot my cash."

"I'm sorry, I'm going to have to see some ID. Or, if you really wanted to prove you were Madonna, please start undressing and I will let you know when I recognize you."

Not to be a downer, but ever since 9/11 last year, I've been thankful for every slow news day we've gotten.

Guess it's time for more exciting updates on: "J.Lo and Ben Affleck are engaged - just making sure you knew", "President Bush is still threatening Iraq - just making sure you knew", and the latest Michael Jackson behavior.

You may have to elaborate on that one for American audiences. Our royal celeb couple is Jennifer and Brad, not some washed-up singer and a soccer (!?) player. ;)

    Hey you!

Actually its kinda funny because when I got here I thought 'posh' was a cool new word I could use but then found out there was a 'Posh' Spice making it totally unusable. :(

And I know that all my American compatriots out there follow non-American football everyday and therefore keep up with the goings-on at Beckingham Palace...;)

I left work an hour early because of this slow news day.

I have a question for all the office job working members here. Do you leave work early on Fridays usually? I am a great worker but I do leave early on a lot of Fridays...because by then I'm so tired of thinking and worn out from working hard all week mentally that I just have to go. Doing any work, especially computer work, can have that affect on a person. There are exceptions...like if I'm real busy and time flies. If I'm not busy enough, then I get evil and do crazy things. I just want to know I'm not alone. Office jobs have a way of working their anti-magic on a person's ass. Don't get me wrong...I don't lie about it(not that it has raised any eyebrows) and I am great at my job. I think I work too fast and there is not enough work to keep me busy all day every weekday. That's not my problem...is it? I do bust my ass. But, I work rather quickly. Oh well...I'm just looking for some other evil-doers to empathize with the "should I stay or should I go..." plight(or shall I say, flight ;)).
