It really does blow my mind how, unlikely any other sport, the same player can change so quickly when you actually win.

Barwin: Situational pass rusher nobody cared much for -> DPOM and likely Pro Bowler
Cushing: Disappointment and average LB -> Pro Bowler, possibly 2nd or 3rd team All-Pro
Joseph: Great CB but not quite elite -> One of the best in the NFL, better than Aso
Schaub: Average QB with some stats -> if not injured, Pro Bowler and considered the top 3 QB in AFC with Ben and Brady.
Offensive Line: Good but 2nd tier -> Considered by man the best run-blocking line in the NFL. Possibly best overall
Antonio Smith: We finally feel he's worth all the money we gave him
Kareem Jackson: No longer the worst player in the history of mankind

You may not agree totally with my assessment of the players, but overall it's still amazing how players can look so different from one year to the next.

You forgot the most obvious one:

Kubiak: Clueless, hyper-conservative buffoon, one of the worst coaches in the league -> Offensive genius with balls of steel, legitimate COTY candidate.

Can an assistant win coach of the year? Because if so Wade needs to win it.

i think a lot of people were thinking that after last year and wondered if his rookie campaign was a result of his "overtraining".

Has kubiak really changed. He still blows a lot of challenges has a good offense. The main difference is that he has a great D. If we still had someone from the Kubiak good ole boy network would be any different than last year?

It's water under the bridge now, but he didn't play bad at all last year, all things considered.

"All things" meaning the suspension, playing out of position, playing for a GOD AWFUL defensive coordinator, etc.

    He's the head coach for a team that's 9-3 with a 3rd string QB.

Wade is a rock star, no doubt, but people act like Kubiak just takes off his headset and goes to the snack bar while the defense is on the field.

but when you're suspended for steroids and you come out with a down year as compared to your rookie year, i can see where people would immediately go to the thought that his success was steroid-based. i certainly did. i took the others things into account, but i was most worried about the overtraining.

Definitely. I thought that dude was done. The combination of the addition of JJ and Cushing deciding that he was going to come back BETTER than his rookie year has helped make the other players awesome and us a winning team.

Cush was talking on 610 this morning about how he would never want to play in a 4-3 again. The 3-4 is about attacking. Him and Demeco run all over the field without any real keys. Since they are competent at doing so, they can run all different sorts of blitz packages.

There are no gaping holes in this defense. Kareem Jackson included. I am not saying Kareem is all-pro or anything, but the pressure we are getting up front is masking his innefficiencies. It's all about how the team plays together. We could have a bunch of scrubs out there as long as the fit well together.

a lot of guys have improved since the start of the season. Cody especially.

Its unfair to have Barwin written off as a situational pass rusher since he's technically in his sophomore season and converted to de. He's probably benefitting from more opportunity since without Mario they're more free to mix up blitzing between wolb and solb.

Probably right about Joseph, Cushing, and Schaub. But Cushing defintiely had a slow start (maybe from the conflict of power with demeco back) and Schaub could've been penciled in for top 3 in afc because of a power vacuum with flacco and rivers sucking. Matt Moore could be top 5 in the afc right now.

Very few OL would be considered better than the texans. They had the rushing champion and unlike the majority of the league had all of their starters returning.

Agreed, but I also don't think he was cut out to play MLB in a 4-3 scheme. That was a huge mistake IMO and had a lot to do with his play last year, along with stumbling out of the starters gate after the suspension.

Can't say the steroid thing didn't cross my mind, but I think this year is proof that last year was just a fluke. Like Barwin, he has finally found the position (ILB in the 3-4) he was born to play.

Are you saying they haven't improved and it's just the fans hyping them up because we're winning:confused:

I think they became awesome and because of that we're winning. Yes, fans will overrate some, but it's obvious they have improved along the way. I think many just became more consistent because they're tired of losing. Possibly challenged to do better by Phillips.

    This.

Our players improvement is part of the reason we are winning. Defensively, part of the reason for that improvement is having cohesion (thanks to Wade) and having a legitimate scheme to put them in position to make plays. These guys always had the ability, but now they are playing at a higher level because they believe in what they are doing and have a lot more confidence. Having a real secondary doesn't hurt either.

Regarding o-line, that's just a matter of continuity. Last year we were banged up and had the Brown suspension, etc. Having the same 5 guys all season does wonders for the offense.

Love Barwin doing that shotgun thing, and then Reed looking up in the air.

Schaub: an overrated QB who had efficient numbers but could never carry his team to victory, thus labeled a loser, never "clutch"

    now

Schaub: a good QB who has efficient numbers but doesn't have to carry his team to victory, can now be labeled a winner.

Wow, amazing thing how helpful it is to have a good running game and a good defense when you want to be seen as a winner.
