If you want to steal an RFA from someone, I think you'll have more success with Deandre Jordan. I think Memphis really would match any offer for him, including the max. If you gave Jordan a max contract offer, Sterling wouldn't match it. You could probably go lower than that and still win, but I don't know how low. And, I don't know if it's advisable since he isn't the sure bet that Marc Gasol is. But, you could do it.

Who in their right mind would give Deandre Jordan a max contract? Last year he was a 7/7 player. His one and only skill is dunking. It would be salary cap prison.

Plus, IMO, I don't think he's going to get any better and could turn into a worse version of Eric Dampier once he gets the guaranteed money. At least Dampier had a 12/10 before he turned into a complete dog.

Morey, just say no to Deandre Jordan.

    Umm.....not sure if you're serious....

The max or a lil' lower than the max and Deandre wins. Not the team that signs him.

    They all make sense.

Toss in Rashard Lewis and Richard Hamilton

    (possibly)
    Joe Johnson
    Elton Brand

Actually, Brand, Lewis, and hamilton might noe be used.
You have to understand that with this cut, you still have to pay them, it just doesn't count under your cap. So unless Sixers, Wizards, and detroit want to sign many free agents, it doesn't make sense for them since they aren't paying double or save any money from luxury cap anyway. And also, they need to make minimum pay rolls in this league so it makes sense to keep them in this case and the FA market is bleak, so they can just use the players(2/3 still contribute)

No idea where to put this and I don't wanna create a thread for it.

    Certainly worth mentioning though.

I know there's a belief that the Grizzlies will match any offer, but the Pacers got A LOT of money to throw at Gasol. We might be talking $15-16M/year.

He needs to go back to Boston or New York.

Dallas could try to replace Barrea with him.

Figures but I'd think the Grizzlies would try to trade Gay to open up some cap space to match any offer for Gasol.

Funny I say that because earlier on Sportcenter, Ric Bucher mentioned that Golden State and Memphis are in the discussions of swapping Gay for Monte Ellis and fillers.

    Comparing their salaries here:

    Monta Ellis:
    • $11,000,000
    • $11,000,000
    • $11,000,000

    Rudy Gay:
    • $15,032,144
    • $16,460,538
    • $17,888,932
    • $19,317,326

They would be able to retain Gasol.

Mentioned on SC a Monta Ellis + asset for Rudy Gay deal. Came from GS side. If Mem considered - big if - it would be for financial reasons.

You know it's a bad FA market when Nene is #1, Jordan #4, and Oden in the top 10.

After checking Golden State and Memphis's salaries for the upcoming year, I saw that the Iranian giant is a rfa... I wonder how much Hamed Haddadu will get. What I request your input!

Before the NBA he once had a season ending injury from losing his temper after a game and punching a window.

Off the court problems seem to be an issue with him.

I wouldn't mind seeing Rudy Gay in a Rockets jersey. Doesn't mean I'd buy the jersey, though...

Probably wouldn't work out but we could trade Scola and Williams to the Bulls for Boozer and maybe the Charlotte protected first.

Then trade Martin and Flynn to Memphis for Gay.

We would still be out a center but our team would look a LOT more attractive to someone like Howard if we can offer him the chance to play with Boozer and Gay along with a solid core. We'd have another future pick. AND we'd retain our cap room.

    Lowry/Dragic
    Lee/Budinger
    Gay/Morris
    Boozer/Patterson
    Hayes/Hill/Thabeet

If you're wondering why either of those other teams might do this:

The Bulls would love to swap Boozer for the cheaper, scrappier Scola. They could also really use Williams as a scorer off the bench at the 2 or 3.

Memphis would do this to open up some cap room to resign Gasol while giving them the 2 and backup 1 they so desperately need. While the deal outright doesn't save them much, getting Martin would mean they could then amnesty Mayo freeing up plenty.

For us we would get a little more size inside (even if he isn't very physical often) and gives us MUCH needed star power. Gay alone is a mighty fine player to add. What say you?

My 2 cents: Marc Gasol is the C I would overpay for, NOT Nene or Tyson Chandler. Gasol has upside; the other two only have downside.

Offer him a massive frontloaded contract with some incentives.

    See if Memphis matches.

I'd even amnesty Thabeet or Scola for it.

I really hope the Rockets dont get too caught up in this years free agency. The thought of players like Gasol, Chandler, and Nene getting over 12 mil or close to the max is sickening to me.

This is just a terrible free agent year and I just hope the Rockets make some small signings for the future and wait it out for next years free agents. Please dont do anything stupid, Rockets. Stay away from Gasol, Chandler, and Nene.
