You guys are too caught up in the minutia. The grass is a perfect example. The budget of this show has been cut since the first episode. Spending money to plant tall grass in a whole neighborhood isn't really the wisest use of your budget.

As for the ammo, it's not like they are firing of 10 clips per person per day. Rick brought them a stash of weapons and ammo plus they already had their own cache because the group had to have survived somehow. They raid cars on the road all the time, can't it just be assumed they have collected ammo along with the other supplies? Ammo will be an issue when they run low.

what I keep thinking about is that dream scene with Daryl and Merle.

I watch it over and over and it gets better and more intense the more I watch- give it a go and you'll see what I mean.

in the hallucination, Merle is nudging at Daryl telling him to get up, you see his limp, almost lifeless body at the riverbed moving as if Merle is trying to lift him up or pull him by his feet.

now imagine the reality of the situation- a zombie finding a half dead body along the river and sniffing him out to see if he was fresh meat- just alive enough to start gnawing away at the feet, and BOOM, in that instant Daryl wakes up out of his blackout to fend the walker off.

that scene alone and the final sequence of episode 7 is why I keep watching this show, it can only get better. I got annoyed at a few moments this season a la LOST but in the end the world they have created has me invested enough to suspend disbelief for a few brief moments each episode.

Nah, you're pretty much right I suppose. I let myself get dragged into a pointless debate.

    Carry on.

I think about stuff like this and how it would affect a show's story outline. you couldn't have said it better.

you ever notice how on HBO shows like Entourage, Curb, and Bored to Death, they are always moving around to a fancy new hotel or apartment, with a clever reason for the characters to make such a move? they can only secure certain locations for shooting an entire seasons worth of footage and they have to decide what is more important- explaining to the audience why Larry David or Vinny Chase move mansions once per year; while spending the big bucks on these realistic on location shoots vs. using a stale old tv studio. so they always sneak it into an episode at the beginning of a season and we never think about it again.

you could apply the same rules to having child actors on the set. its expensive and there are strict labor rules. producers and writers always have to come up with some clever casting decisions and/or write certain characters out of shows for stuff like this-see Walt in LOST.

in this case they stretch out the number of episodes without Sophia and they save money on using the young actress. then they make it a humongous part of the storyline looking for the girl.

the same will be inevitable with Carl. and if the audiences don't like him on a show like this, even better, we get to see him get offed and then turn into a zombie if push comes to shove.

also, I think AMC is edgy enough and handling this show fine. its the first show that the network developed on their own entirely from concept.
they might as well be on the same level as HBO or Showtime, minus a gratuitous sex scene or obligatory boob shot here or there.

Thank you two both for a realistic take on why these things being complained about are not addressed.

Now, prepare yourself for people asking you what the big deal about criticizing those things is, after they made a big deal about those things in the first place.

Actually, I think in a show like this, such polarizing emotions over all this little stuff is probably a good thing, on reflection. If I were the producers, I wouldn't care if you had issues with what you were watching or not, as long as you WERE watching. Their job, especially with Kirkland overseeing the direction of the story, is the tell the story as they envision it the best way they can within the budget they're given. And, given the ratings being among their best for a few shows this season and not losing audience, I think they're doing quite well.

My only real barometer is, holes or not, am I entertained at the end of the episode? I have been, so I'm good.

It kind of shocked me when the old man, Glenn i think.
basically stated as fact that shane had tripped Otis to get away
"because he knows what kind of man he is"

I need to rewatch the earlier seasons

Well, as someone who has read every issue of the comic, I'm fine with the show. Warts and all. I could care less about topography, lawn maintenance or if Andrea's hair would never look like that in this climate. With AMC continually cutting the budget, I'm happy with how everything has went down appearance wise.

There have been changes, but the underlying core of the story is being true to the source and that's all I asked. I do miss that there are certain characters that I liked a lot missing, but I'm hopeful they show up later in the series.

It's you guys' right to complain about the show and that's what this forum is for. But just remember that no one is making you watch. I say just turn your brain off for an hour each week and enjoy the ride for what it is; a fictional drama about the pain that HUMANS cause to one another on a TV show with a budget lower than Desperate Housewives.

I enjoyed the mid season finale
I was not expecting them to find her as a zombie.

I didn't notice the grass was short before but, now that it has been pointed out, I can't get past it and...I'm out. ;)

How are Rick and Shane best friend since High School?? Completely different personality and Shane seems like a real a-hole.. Why would anyone wants to be friends with that??

    1. We don't know what Rick was like in high school.
    2. People make friends with clashing personalities in high school and then stay friends despite growing up into different people.
    3. It was a small town they were in.
    4. We don't know really what Shane was like (other than a womanizer) before the world went to hell.

When you grow up in a small town, your pretty much friends with everybody. Plus, we don't know what he was like in High School, his new surroundings could've really changed him into the egotistical jerk he is.

They actually addressed this issue when Hershel said exactly what you are saying. His daughter responded by reminding him that the other farms are either burnt down or overrun by zombies.

Hershel's farm in particular apparently has beneficial topography (a river that gets the zombies stuck in the silt!) good fencing, food & water sources still in tact and most importantly for Rick who has a pregnant wife, someone who can act as a doctor.

The other abandoned farms, even if they weren't burnt down or overrun by zombies, are unlikely to still have living chickens, cows, horses, etc.

Nah, I don't think I will. My opinion will remain, and as long as everyone else is allowed to b**** about what bugs them, I suppose I'll retain my right to b**** about what bugs me.

I guess Dale would rather take his chances with stupid somewhat slower zombies than a physically stronger man who is an expert in firearms. Not to mention that he also suspects him of killing Otis to have his way.

I'm not worried about realism of zombie show. I'm worried about lack of zombies in zombie show.

But all these characters speak in cliches and I don't care what they say. there is not one character who I care what happens to them. Andrea and old guy fight when they see each other, Rick and Shane fight when they see each other, Lori fights with Shane when they see each other, Asian and hot girl fight when they see each other, Hershel and Rick fight when they see each other, Shane gets angry almost goes crazy on friends, doesn't go crazy on friends, dale does something bold and redneck, Rick yells cliches like "We are all we have!", "You can't think like that or we are already doomed!" and then prays out loud in the most cheezy prayer ever. God laughed when he heard that dumb prayer and sent more zombies. Oh, wait, God didn't send more zombies because this show has exactly 3 zombies per minute less than any zombie show or movie ever. If you multiply that out by the 43(or so) minutes per episode, that is 129 less zombies a week. I think we deserve more for our zombie buck. 129 LESS!!!

So after all of this boring dialogue and stupid circular drama that goes nowhere they shoot a girl in the face to evoke emotion out of me(for the second time). And it wasn't even that emotional. It was more like "Ah Ha! That's where that stupid girl was! You got me, M Night Shyamalan, what a twist! Thanks for wasting an entire season looking for a dumb girl that I didn't care about because she had about 12 seconds of screen time before she went missing."

I am a huge zombie fan. I created the most epic thread ever, Zombies vs. Vampires. I want to love this show. The characters are just so boring and long-winded it makes me want to rip my fingernails off.

other than . . .knowing the kind of man he is
His suspicions seem kind of baseless
