We don't need Mo Taylor. Danny Fortson is a much better fit for the Rockets. We need a strong rebounding power forward to make up for Cato's lack of aggresiveness on the boards. If you look at Fortson's numbers from the amount of time he was not injured last season he is in the top 10 in the NBA in rebounding average per game. Extend that average over a full 82 game season and we have exactly what we need at the PF position. Collier may be an offensive threat, but I seriously doubt he will be feared on the boards. Collier will not start anyway. Now I know there will be some replies saying that Fortson is too short for the PF position at 6-7, but does anyone remember a guy who played for us the last three seasons who is actually 6-4, even though listed at 6-6. His name is Barkley and he was a top 3 rebounder his whole tenure in the league. Rebounding is a skill you cannot teach and height in actuality matters very little. Forget Mo Taylor and work out a sign-and-trade with Fortson. ------------------
I think Fortson is a good rebounder but can't score like Taylor. Taylor gets alot of hype also and he deserves a little of it too because I don't think Fortson would have recieved 25 threads if he was coming here. I think Rudy T plan for 2000-2001 is to outscore everyone like the Kings. That will be one exciting game. Lineup: Cato Divac Taylor Webber Anderson Christie (Got him in a trade) Mobley Anderson Franchise Freakshow Its like one big one on one game.
Almost any player going to the Rockets will get that many threads. That's just the way we are. Also, I am a Taylor supporter, but also remember a lot of those threads were negative. If the Rockets signed Isiah Rider, we'd probably have 100 threads on him. That doesn't mean he's the top FA in the NBA obviously- it's just the way we are. ------------------ Looking for next year's Dan Langhi? Draftsource.net Sign Mo Taylor. Bench Kenny Thomas. I think Fortson is the player we should of been going after all along.I mean Mo has superior offensive skills and may have a better chance of being an allstar because of that.We really dont need any scoring we need rebounding and fortson can be in the top 5.Both are good players but Mo will demand the ball more and we alredy have all the 1on1 players we need.Where as Fortson will get most his points off of putbacks and cuts to the basket(pig miller),so he can concentrate on rebounding. ------------------
This team pretty much needs both. If the Rockets do not acquire a PF that can score, rebound, defend, etc, which basically seems to be the case now, then the other route is to fill in all these needs with two separate players. Have a scorer like Mo starting then back him up with a defender/rebounder type. I would actually be happy if the Rockets just brought in Tyronne Washington to backup the frontline and let him develop. I dont see Fortson wanting to stay long term as a backup. I was really impressed with the rough and rugged style Washington brought to the RMR. The guy is a powerful 6-10 270, blocks shots, really holds his position well on defense and towards the end of the Revue with more PT, showed his rebounding abilities. Washington would be an ideal backup if this team signs Mo Taylor. ------------------ Check out the Best Source for Draft Info Draftsource.net
I think there are a little over 30 threads on Mo already (there were 28 yesterday morning). What's scary, is he's not even a Rocket, yet. Anyone we are in the market for will get at least 10 threads (a la Croshere), but I'm afraid it'll go on overload if we actually sign Taylor. Don't we need a strong scorer to make up for Cato's lack of scoring ability? If things fall into place, we could actually be the Kings with defense....can you imagine that? If we signed Rider, there'd be 100 different threads that all said "Rider will kill our chemistry". The reason to sign Mo Taylor, is because, as we already know, finding a good post up threat for a reasonable price is very hard. I'd think the chances then of us following that up with a tough rebounding/defense/shot blocker to back him up like Washington if he pans out, JYD, Feick, CBA pickup, late draft pick, etc. are a LOT better, than not signing Mo Taylor, and hoping Webber comes here. There are many defensive big men that go late in draft (JYD was a mid 20s pick, was Feick even drafted?) and guys floating around of the Foyle breed. ------------------ The Serious Police are watching. Follow the rules or be assimilated. Shandon is underrated.
Although Fortson is a good rebounder he would not mend well with this team. Danny can not play to his full potential on our fast paced squad. I'd rather keep Kenny at the pf spot anyways. GO KT!!!!! ------------------ please venture to atheistalliance and rocketsonline I AM SPARTACUS
According to NBATalk.com, last night there was a four team trade in the works in an effort to try to get Fortson out of Boston and to get him the money he so dearly wants and deserves. The deal had Fortson going to the Warriors signed, sealed, and delivered. The Mavs would have received a signed version of Eisley (he wants a sign-and-trade from Utah) and guard Dana Barros from Boston. Utah would receive Donyell Marshall from the Warriors. Boston would receive guard Robert Pack and a 1st-round pick from Utah. Also of note: NBATalk.com at the same time says that it is impossible for this deal to go down for the sole reason that it does not work under the cap. Utah would have to give up more players to absorb Donyell Marshall's contract. Just posted to let you know the update on Fortson as of this morning. ------------------
www.bskball.com, Just read that Fortson may be interested in signing for the exception with the Miami Heat and serve as the backup for Brian Grant. According to the article, this could happen due to the fact that Fortson could get more national exposure on the Heat and more discipline from Pat Riley. The feeling is that this could bring the big money next offseason when the crop of free agents isn't too good excluding Webber and Finley. ------------------ [This message has been edited by countingcrow (edited August 14, 2000).]
