The players are idiots. They knew they had no chance at winning a lawsuit and bluffed anyway with the disclaimer. And after they lost 20% of their salary this year due to missed games, they decided not to sacrifice anymore money and agreed to a deal that was similar to the owners' last offer.

I saw no reason to harp. Players got crushed in this lockout. Owners definitely want the PR to seem like the players did a good job and aren't idiots.

Very very doubtful. A precious few will do this. More power to them.

Lol. Nice spin. The players got a higher BRI split than what was previously offered until the owners pre decert offer AND they got some of the system wins they were seeking. They still lost but no previous offer was as good as what they just accepted.

If by similar you mean excluding the system changes then I guess last years Rockets were similar to the 94/95 teams.

Agreed, although I think it's harder to take that bluff through the legal system until you can point to the owners no longer negotiating.

After the 19 yr old age limit was added to the last CBA, I can think of only 1star that opted for Europe over college. Brandon Jennings.

Most guys just stayed in the NCAA and did their time like Durant and Rose.

    Who cares who won?

In the end, the fans won by getting NBA back!

Christmas baby! Rose vs. Kobe! Amare and Carmelo vs. KG and Pierce! Dirk and Kidd vs. Wade, LeBron and Bosh!

Can't wait baby! Less than a month away!

It looks like the main system change is that the proposed Carmelo Anthony Rule was dropped. Nothing else was really significant.

Why do you think the agreed upon offer is so different than the last offer?

Have heard that Caron Butler is someone the Nets could make a push for.

See post #266. Supposedly the max salary amount is also higher. That's all good things for the players. The real question is what previous offer can you identify that was better than the one they just agreed to? Even if the Melo rule was the only significant difference, doesn't the fact that it's in the players favor make the accepted offer better?

Tons were calling these dudes idiots for declining other offers but it looks like what they accepted was the best they they have been offered. "The offers will only get worse....players are idiots".

In talking to people from several small-market teams tonight, they are not happy with competitive balance concessions made yesterday...

That said, this was always all about $$$ and from that standpoint teams happy w/deal. In end, competitive balance talk mostly rhetoric

The players were idiots b/c they sacrificed 20% of their salary this season to get this current offer. So no, the accepted offer is not better.

Btw, increased max salary with harsher luxury tax penalties is better for parity, not necessarily the players.

hilarious, i love that people still try to use that ol' chestnut. but alright, let's have fun with it. kobe bryant, kevin garnett, tracy mcgrady, amare stoudemire, lebron james, dwight howard, kevin durant, derrick rose. there's 8 without even trying to come up with a full list of successful high school/1 year players. you come up with the first 160 high school/1st year players who were bad and i'll give you some more to match 20 to 1.

How is the offer not better than the sub 50% BRI offers they were getting this summer or the 50/50 split with system issues that they rejected right before decert? I'm confused. If them sacrificing salary for the owners to make concessions then I guess they will always be idiots in your eyes, but thats one hell of a spin. Compare the offers independently and highlight how the previous ones were better. Are you really arguing that 16 missed games of one season trumps the system issues they got over the timeframe of this deal?

college basketball is better (as an nba fan, that's my biggest concern) and the players get to entertain us for free instead of make millions for an extra year. everybody wins.
