Don't be surprised if Mo Taylor's decision to go to Seattle, if he indeed does that, is motivated by the arena problems here. Players are VERY WELL AWARE of the issues on the table. Wouldn't you want to know where you were going to be for the next 10 years? Wouldn't you want to know that the franchise was stable? I would and so do many free agents. Without this arena deal getting done, it could make the Rockets' rebuilding efforts even more difficult over the next few years. ------------------ Save Our Rockets and Comets SaveOurRockets.com
I think in Mo's case, he wants to come here, have a decent season, and then leave for the mega bucks in next years thin free agent crop. ------------------ In order to be a success in life, you need 2 things: 1. Don't tell everything you know.
Mo's going to sign a one year deal, so the long term future of Louisville....uh Houston, doesn't matter. If we're going to be the Houston Rockets, we will know that before next offseason, so Mo can sign a one year deal and go elsewhere if we are heading north. Also, from what I understand, Eckels has known about the developments of the project the whole time so he could have kept his complaints private and made them before the deal was finalized. It was clearly a sabotage not an attempt to help. ------------------
mc mark -- I'm just pointing out that Eckels didn't pipe up until Mobley re-signed. If he had, Mobley might have gotten cold feet.
Will, You may be right that Eckels delayed announcement benefited the Rockets in the signing of Mobley but given the way this announcement happened it seems doubtful that it was his intent to help. If he really wanted to help the Rockets he would have made certain that his "concerns" were addressed before the agreement was completed. I find it hard to believe that his "concerns" were ignored by the Rockets and SA after such a big deal was made about wanting to make sure they had his support on this agreement. Jeff, I have to think that the only thing this incident would affect concerning Taylor would be his willingness to sign more than a 1 year deal. ------------------ [This message has been edited by JT (edited August 12, 2000).]
Just to play devil's advocate: (1) The real question is why Eckels waited this long to shoot down the deal. (2) The Rockets' biggest project this offseason was re-signing Mobley, not signing Taylor. Like clockwork, August arrives, Mobley re-signs, and Eckels, just before heading out of town on vacation, finally drops his bombshell. I'd say his delayed timing (as opposed to his decision) was designed to help us, not to hurt us.
He would damage his credibility for an arena he would probably rather not have built? I'm more inclined to believe he was trying to help destroy the deal for a variety of reasons that include Bob Watson, the Astrodome, and Mayor Brown.
I haven't read his objections. Does anyone have a link to the story or did he even specify what they were? ------------------
My E-MAIL did'nt go through to Judge Eckels, does anyone knows if they put a block. Also on 15 friends of mine. ------------------ Rudy T. will find and fulfill Rockets destiny.
If Mo signs for 2.25 million, wouldn't he be better off signing with the Lakers? Stays in L.A., gets a ring, rubs it in on the Clips and then signs for big bucks? ------------------ "Never give a sucker an even break. Nor wisen up a chump."
