Dang. I totally spaced on the game against Slovenia. USA up 3-2 in the 77th. Buddle, Dempsey, and Altidore with goals. Fog is ridiculously thick. Can barely see the players and can't see the ball.
I'm not saying it's foggy, but I just saw Randall Cunningham try to complete a pass over Mike Singletary.
Finally, a win. More goals scored today than in all of Jurgen's games combined. They went with a 4-4-2, with Dempsey playing central mid playing up higher. Seemed to make a difference. Buddle's goal was a beauty. A volley from about 25 yards in the corner. Couldn't have hit it better. Dempsey's was a header won off a corner. Altidore's was off a PK.
I know it is off-topic, but ATW are you enjoying the friendly Germany - the Netherlands. It is a shame both teams miss a lot of important players, and the Netherlands is not playing well. But some German players are really impressive.
Ah, the attack is alive! Good game, U.S.A.! Good for Jürgen. Good for the team. Das ist, was sie gesagt!
lets turn clutchfans in to a soccer bbs since there is no basketball to watch .. Clutch would make a great soccer mascot..
Germany was really impressive, and the Netherlands really failed to impress. This game really showed for me the improvements Germany has made since the last WC. It has been a long time since the netherlands has been destroyed this badly. Especially the defense was terrible (Braafheid should never play for the dutch team again, but we do not really have an alternative if Pieters is injured), Matthijsen is also bad, let's hope Douglas will be able to play in the EC. I still think that both teams and Spain are favorite for the EC, but the Netherlands really has to play better to beat Germany or Spain, I have faith that they will be able to in the tournament.
We made it look so easy - against the no. 2 in the world. <object width="640" height="360"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/6mSLlHf90L4?version=3&hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/6mSLlHf90L4?version=3&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="640" height="360" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true"></embed></object>
Arno, are you following what's going on at Ajax this week? The return of Van Gaal and the likely departure of Cruyff? I hear from some Dutch mates that Davids was one of the key figures that played a role in it and Ajax fans are a bit upset at the subterfuge that went down. Also, considering DeBoer is a Cruyff appointment, might Van Gaal start looking for a reason to get him out? (As far as I know, Frank and LVG are on good terms, is that right?)
Yeah I’m following it. it is interesting (and even if I didn't want to follow it I can't turn on the tv without people talking about it). I can see Van Gaal keeping de Boer, as far as I know de Boer never spoke his mind about the situation, and de Boer was part of the great Ajax team when van Gaal was there. I'm getting tired of Cruyff, he was a great player, but now he is just getting annoying. he just bashes Ajax but for some reason he doesn't want to actually participate. I'm also not a fan of Van Gaals personality, but for some reason Cruyff annoys me even worse. During a meeting Cruyff has supposedly said to Davids that the only reason he was part of the RVC was because he was Black. that also didn't sit wel with the media. I have no idea how it will end. My guess is that Cruyff will quit and stay away from Ajax and keeps bashing them in the newspapers.
Oh come on DD we just want to talk about quality soccer. (yes it is a bit strange for a Dutchmen to say that after the destruction of my national team:grin
I know no problem:grin: You mean in the game versus Germany? They were just better. We didn't play well and germany did, so we got destroyed. Especially our backs were destroyed (everytime any offensive german player got the ball on the right side of the field I knew it would be dangerous because Braafheid couldn't defend a one-legged donkey). I still think that if we play well and Germany also plays well it can go either way. Especially if both teams are at battle strength. It will be a interesting EC with 3 great teams.
