Honestly, if you even are thinking of going out with her despite (A)they dated for 9 years and (B)you want to **** her more than marry her, you should just go ahead and try to **** her.

Obviously, she's either hot enough to be worth it, or you don't prioritize friendship much. Either way, the answer is to obviously go for it.

 

I guess you need to decide how much your old friend means to you. The chances are that even if you sleep with this chick, nothing long term will come of it. Yet you sound ready to very possibly toss away your best friend because you're thinking with your balls, instead of your brain. It's been a very long time, but I've been there, and it isn't worth it. You can't place a value on a close friend. Why? Because they are priceless.

 

Friendships seem to drift apart all the time for any number of reasons, though. Long term relationships presumably come out nowhere and I would think they'd have to be cultivated whenever possible.

 

I guess it depends on the friendships. Most of mine have been strong, and are still strong. I haven't drifted apart from almost any of my close friends.

My best friends I know from Kinder - 6th grade. We're all still really close. I have other friends I met in College that I'm good friends with still as well. There are a few friends that I've known over the years that have kind of drifted away over the years, but not many.

Like FB, I have close friends that I've known since grade school. I know that's unusual, but there you are. A couple died along the way, or I'd have more. There's also a couple I've known like that that I'd cross the street not to see. Aside from the fact that I'm talking about relationships longer than 50 years, in some cases, it's ordinary life, isn't it?

 

Obviously his friendship with his friend isn't that great if he's asking the question.
