I support the Steve for 2004 olympics banners! He deserves to be there. He's one of the best and was a starter for the All Star game. The only reason I think he didn't do all that great at the All Star game was because he didn't have full hearing and he was sick. He needs to be out there representing our country.

Stu Jackson sure holds a long grudge on stevie because of what he did to him in Vancouver...Shouldn't there be a panel to pick players instead of just one guy? Does anybody know how do they vote when picking players to the Olympics?

Personally I think Francis to the Olympics is a lock and I would be really, really, REALLY shocked if he wasn't selected. He's getting a ton of press, he's putting up big numbers on a winning team, and he's constantly getting the franchise label. I think he'll be there.

Get ready to be shocked, then. NBA 2 Night and Stephen A. Smith on Best Damn both talked about the 2004 team yesterday and Stevie's name didn't even come up. Duncan, Kidd, McGrady, and Allen are the early commits and they all mentioned Iverson and Garnett. That's already a lot of guards, and if you add Kobe in there it's getting awfully crowded in the backcourt without the Franchise.

Although its a great honor, it makes the player weak and unrested for the following Rockets season. Thats why so many top players didn't play in the WG. this year! They needed time off.
REMEMBER Steve Francis plays like a Shooting Guard and there is a lot of competition. If only he was known as a Point Guard.

the only press i seen bout him and the 04 olympix was in the houston chronicle and he has been posting good numbers since his rookie year, so hes been deserving to be on the team since his sophmore year.......

I would submit that Steve is a better representative and player than AI.

Excusez, who started the All Star game at point. He's gotta be on the team. He's the MVP right now in my book. USA basketball would be embarassed if they left him off.

but quite frankly, Keep your eye on that team from China.

    HoRockets,
That's neither here nor there, Iverson is expected to accept an invitation to play on the team shortly. Once that's done, it's done.

Wouldnt that be funny - Yao on the China team, Francis on the USA team. Francis goes up for a DUNK and Yao BLOCKS his shot and sends Francis on his BUTT. Or do you think they both would let each other pass by each other and score? Nah! It would be great Goliath vs. David!

baker1: Who do you expect to see in the 2004 Olympics? And who would win if Dream Team '04 played Dream Team '92? Most of the players are in their prime right now when in '92 most of the players were on the way out. Much Love DA

David Aldridge: (3:14 PM ET ) If USA Basketball gets the commitments it says it already has, you'll see Kidd, Ray Allen, Kobe, AI, McGrady, Duncan and Garnett, for starters. This time, all the best want to play, and they all want to be asked.

David Aldridge: (3:16 PM ET ) Oh, and I meant to add, I would put Steve Francis, Antoine Walker and Antonio Davis on, too. I know that Franchise and 'Toine want to play for their country very bad, and Davis was a standup guy at the World championships.
    ----------------------------------------------------------
Karl (Htown): I join every chat and have never gotten a question answered, this one means the most to me, please answer. Have the Rockets considered hiring Olajuwon as a big man coach as the Wiz did with Ewing? Ewing has helped Kwame alot in his development to a consistent player and i believe YAO would greatly improve with teachings of the DREAM.So Whats the chances of Olajuwon returning as a coach to Htown and whats your take on this?

David Aldridge: (3:17 PM ET ) Don't know the answer to that, Karl. I'll ask. I'm also not sure Hakeem is really retired yet, if you know what I'm saying.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Vince (NC): Hello DA, please please answer my question regarding Yao. Why have so many people (like Barkely) been trashing Yao Ming without really looking into his game closely? It seems to me that some people want him to fail simply because he is from communist China, and people have this stereotype about Asian guys can't play hoops. Am I right or am I thinking too much?

David Aldridge: (3:21 PM ET ) There may be some of that, Vince. I'm not naive about things like that. But I think most of the hating comes because people really haven't seen Yao play. I got a chance to see him every day for 10 days at the Worlds and I came away very impressed. He will be up and down this season, but as I keep saying, I think ultimately he will be a very solid player for Houston.

Steve's situation is the same as with players like Antoine Walker, Jerry Stackhouse, and Bonzi Wells. They all average over 20 a game but no one considers them the best of the NBA (although I personally consider Steve the best pg in the NBA).

You cannot compare Steve to Antoine Walker, Bonzi Wells and Jerry Stackhouse because those guys are solid players (Stackhouse may be a star) but I don't think they will ever be a SUPERSTAR. Francis at this rate is destined to become a superstar.

I think another reason Stevie has been passed on is because in his first couple of years he was notorious for picking up unnecessary techinical fouls. At least that's the only thing I can come up with....I mean why else would the olympic team pass up the best point guard in the country!!!!

Maybe they just don't want to see SF dribbling, dribbling, dribbling and playing his street ball all game.
