Did you read it? It has some pretty decent wikki links to articles on aspects of behavioral science. It gets cited a lot, by me some, to explain idiot responses that defy logic and facts. It's the explanation of last resort for people with an irrational need to find universal rationality. "Well, they are wrongheaded jackasses and sociopaths but at least it's explainable" The Onion's truths are so deep they make me ache.
What I think is interesting is the people who are anti abortion are also pro capital punishment. I think the link is there between these things. When they s ay you shouldn't be allowed abortion regardless of the circumstance(rape, etc). Then more often than not a person having a child who wants to have an aborition sees that they, the timing, or their situation/resources are not enough to raise a child. If this child is born anyway and either is raised with that admittedly unfit parent(s) or is put into foster child, those are both avenues that lead to either abuse, neglegence, or just less resources and access to education, etc. THIS IS NOT ALWAYS THE CASE of course and it never always ends up one way or another, but this is more than reasonable. Studies also show that people in this bad socioeconomic status with a worse off childhood, bad parenting, etc is more likely to commit a crime. More often than not, someone in line for capital punishment probably did not have such a dandy and great childhood(there will always be cases of both and it never is one way or the other), but if all those studies show right and this guy who had a hard upbringing with a parent that didnt see herself fit or could afford to propertly take care of him and then got into the wrong crowd yada yada and committed crime and then the same conservatives who brought em into this world is ready to throw em out only after a bad life. I don't know, I am still undecided and see different merits for different arguments. For rape, etc I find it hard to argue against abortion. That said, it is still a human life that has nothing to do with that crime, why should that be prematurely ended when it has no control. The argument probably goes to when you believe a human life is actually formed. And as far as capital punishment, for the worst of crimes, I am against it just because it is the easy way out. I think instead there should be life without parol and also this means much less privledges in jail. Bc Jail is considered rehab to go back in society and the worst monsters who are in this life without parole category are not being rehabbed, they should just work everyday for the cost of having them in there, minimal time outside, minimum social time, just make everyday a reminder in that small cell of waht you did and a lifewithout hope or any hope of building a social system(even in jail) or ascending in anyway or being in a gang or finding some purpose is worse than death which is the fast escape and many of them try that suicide anyways
I'm pro-abortion and pro capital punishment. I really can't understand how people could be pro-abortion and not be pro-capital punishment. At least the person who is convicted usually did some heinous crime and it will possibly affect others before they contemplate doing something like that.
Both sides have their Homers. This is not a factual number because I'm pulling it out of my ass, but I'd imagine over 90% of Americans are ill-informed on politics and believe everything they hear no matter what the source is.
