I just don't see Mo signing for more than a year... or for less than 6mill... I REALLY hope that I'm wrong... ..but if the guy turns down 6mill per for 3 years with Toronto, then why would he suddenly take 4.5mill per for 3 years with us?? I'd like to see him take the one year deal and show us what he's got (and in the meantime get hypnotised and agree to stay on for less than the max ) ------------------
MO just simply does not have much effort on the board, But we can definitely put him for test for a year and if does'nt work, we just simply trade him to another team, besides there is no doubt that he has no problem putting some numbers to attract other team to take him, so I'll say let's sign him and worried about him later. ------------------ Rudy T. will find and fulfill Rockets destiny.
DOD..... You have no idea why we would want more scoring from the PF position? One question: Why the heck not? You want less scoring from the PF position? Look, I know we get a ton of scoring from our guards, but it's a heckuva lot easier for a defense to concentrate on the guard position than it is for a defense to concentrate on both the perimeter and low post. Is it ever a bad thing to be able to bang the ball down low, stretch the defense out, and have more than perimeter options in clutch time? Getting a defensive-minded PF who can rebound is great, and I'm sure we would all like to have one....or two....or three. But I don't understand why there should be any debate as to why would want to sign such a talented scorer at the low-post position for such a low, short-term, no-strings-attached deal. Honestly! What are you seeing that I don't? It would cost us next to nothing to give the guy a shot! There is a paranoia here that I don't really understand. I'm honestly asking for someone to please give me a clear reason why getting Taylor for one year at the 2.25 mil exception would be worse for the team than it would be a help. Talk amongst yourselves. Discuss........ ------------------ "Have we not here the best cards in the game to win this easy match played for a crown?....." Bill Shakespeare
This Mo stuff reminds me of when we got Quitten. We were gonna win the championship cause quitten was gonna lead us. Well that worked out well, wouldn't you say? Mo Taylor is nothing more than a scoring PF who can't rebound or play Defense. If you think that will improve the Rockets, fine. Don't come here when the season starts and complain how much he sucks. ------------------ In order to be a success in life, you need 2 things: 1. Don't tell everything you know.
He's 23. He lacks maturity. If you want a complete player get a vet. For all the people who say why would you want a poor defensive PF-He's better defensively than anything we got at the position. He is average defensively. Among Wallace, Webber, Malone, MacDyess, Garnett, and Duncan, only one scored more than 2 ppg more than usual and one scored less than 2 ppg than usual. They did play their usual minutes. As far as rebounding goes, He is a young man, he will naturally get a little better. Last year, should have been his rookie season. Many college players get better at rebounding. I would expect the learning curve to be slower in the NBA. Great rebounders are born with it, but I am suggeting it is possible for him to pull 7.5+ a game like he was doing frequently at the end of last season. This would make him average I think. The rockets are one of the few teams that could handle having a below average rebounding, average defensive, scoring PF. Until a better option is reasonable available, Mo's the man. This is of course comes cheap. I doubt the rocks will overspend. ------------------ "You've got 6 fouls, use them well" -Derrick Coleman
DoD, I like you man. Plus, you are from Dallas, so it makes it harder to dispute your points (not excatly sure why). Anyway, you are right, there were several small forwards that outrebounded Taylor. 6.5 is not that good for a power forward, feasibly the guy that should lead a team or come close. But I don't think having him on the roster would hurt us in the rebounding department. He is a young player - 23. He is extremely adept at putting the ball in the basket. He played for Michigan, a school not known for its defense, but for high scoring, high octane offense. I am not making excuses, but each player has a certain style. I think Taylor's style fits well with our offense. I really am excited about the possibilities and opportunities it will bring to the guard rotation. We will be an extremely hard team to defend with three to four solid weapons on the floor at the same time. Imagine less double teaming on Steve. Single coverage on Cuttino also makes me feel all warm and fuzzy. The most important ingredient to good defense is a good offense. If you have good scorers, then the opponent is less likely to have fast break opportunities, less defensive rebounds fall in their hands, and less pushing the ball up the floor. This also makes it easier to set up the press, if needed. I see all your points DoD, and all the others who say he cannot rebound. But I also think of the possibilities and begin salivating. Obviously the team wants him, and most of the poll voters want him..... SIGN HIM! ------------------ HOOP-T ------------------
No, what I said was I have no idea why we'd want to take a shot on a player for 1 year; it's not like we're on a championship run, after all. Then he either leaves or asks for some bloated contract that I personally don't think he's worth. We have Cut Tino who showed some spine and stayed with the team out of loyalty (I think), playing with Steve who loves him like a brother, combined with Shandon who just shuts up and plays like every player should. These are all consistencies the team needs. Why throw some variable into the mix to stir the pot unnecessarily? Yes, I'm a Mo hater. I hate him for the same reasons I hate Pippen. I'd be a hypocrite not to. I'm sure y'all can understand. ------------------ Just shut up and post
DoD-But if say, we could get him for the 4.5 mill exception in a sign and trade, on a 3 year contract, what would you think of it then? We could then have his Bird Rights, and him for 3 years. Taylor hasn't entered his prime. Pippen was a washed up hag. ------------------ The Serious Police are watching. Follow the rules or be assimilated. Shandon is underrated.
Hoopster , I don't disagree with what you guys are saying. There's no doubt in my mind that the guy is an improvement over what we already have. He'll give us a front-line offensive threat we never had last season until Da Wiz decided to wake up and scare me into thinking he could be the player I always thought he would be. I don't want him on the team because I'm not into this 1 year try-me plan and then pray he sticks around (somebody correct me, but that's basically what the contract will be, right?). I also do not like him, as stated, because his rebounding stinks for a PF. Lastly, I do not like him simply because his actions reminded me a lot of Pippen's when he bashed his teammate(s). Why the heck do I want to go through that garbage again? Anyway, thanks for the compliments, they're appreciated. ------------------ Just shut up and post
Anti-Reebok, That, would be a much better deal, but still doesn't address my fear of certain Pippenesque characterstics (see my comments to Hoop-T above). ------------------ Just shut up and post
