I was one of the few that attended. It was my first game of the season. Here's a couple thoughts. The introduction of the players was absolutely horrible. I'm sure once the Rockets are in the new arena they will blow it out but, c'mon. They bring out a big white sheet and show silhouettes (sp) of a Powerdancer, Turbo and Clutch while 6 guys beat on drums. Once the players are introduced they go down the aisle of Powerdancers holding flashlights. It was just too cheesy and cheap looking, imo. I don't know if it's been the same every night but I was disappointed. It looked like something you might see at a Rice or UH game. They are trying to bring some of the Comets flavor to the games. Clutch comes out with a towel and the announcer informs us: "When Clutch waves the towel: CHEER! When Clutch drops the towel: be quiet." I think about 100 people followed the instructions. Then, like at a Comets game, Clutch stomped on the letters spelling ROCKETS at midcourt. I actually heard 2, yes, TWO people actually yelling out the letters. It was pretty embarassing. I think a lot of the lack of enthusiasm had to do with the opponet being the Cavs, or at least I hope so. Having said all that we still had a good time. I love being at the game being able to focus on just Yao or Franchise and watching how they play away from the ball. I'm guessing Friday night with Jordan in town there will be more excitement and enthusiasm.
yep... that's the way it goes! but when the house is packed, there's a lot more participation. During the first home game, it was wild, everyone was spelling out ROCKETS. Same goes for the Dream jersey retirement night, that night was wild! This is the new intro, get used to it.
Free Agent, What would you do different for the player’s introductions? I hear people say they hate it but never hear what they think should be done. Personally I don't mind the intro's, sure beats last years "Bear on a Motorcycle".
Well, I yelled out when Clutch was spelling out "Rockets". I felt bad, there was barely any participation by anyone. The whole make noise until the scarf dropped was kinda lame though. I enjoyed the shadows of Clutch and turbo on the screen. I noticed that a lot of the kids that were there liked it also. I got my t-shirt though! I voted for every Rockets player what was on the ballet. Go KT! New Mexico rules!
I was there. I like the new intro. Especially the row of Power Dancers. I must say it does have a different effect in a full house though. I think everyone was more worried about filling out ballots for their free t-shirt than participating in the intro. Things that could go... Clutch's towel cheer. Clutch's Stomp on the R-O-C-K-E-T-S and the Reliant Energy Spotlight twirling on the floor!?
I think the biggest problem with the intro is it looks like crap unless you are sitting with a good direct view of the big white sheet. I was sitting in section 234 (2nd level behind Cavs bench in corner). I liked it better when they had lights and lasers flashing...it seemed to involve the entire arena. I never liked Clutch on a motorcycle because I remember seeing the Jazz bear do it first. I know it'll be a lot better in the new arena with a new video/scoreboard in the middle of the court. The screens at Compaq flat out suck. I don't blame the Rockets for that. I've been to one Texans game and their open is fantastic...the computer generated bull running throught the state and streets of Houston then coming into the stadium and knocking over the opponents. I also like the way the PA guy says the first name of the players and the crowd yells out their last name. It's really cool if you've never seen it. Having said all that I guess the Rockets new intro will have to do until next year.
In spirit I was there. And I think I saw Gummi Clutch mingling with the power dancers after the game.
I was there. The intro is something new, but it could be tweaked a bit. I would have a video on the new screens next year with the sillouette instead of doing it live, because really it only makes for a good show for half the arena. I like the drums. I like them alot actually. It is something different. The spelling out of R-O-C-K-E-T-S can go totally. I am not really down with that. I don't care either way, I am there to see the game, not see the player intros. I was in section 215, across from the Rockets bench with these two guys behind me screaming for Cato to come into the game. I turned around and told them at the time, Collier was the leading scorer in the game, he had 11 at the time. They just said, well...Collier is having a career game, but Cato is better. At that point, I realized that there is no pleasing some people. I think some people just have to find something to complain about to make them feel better.
I personally don't care for the 15 year olds with painted faces and funky hair playing the drums. It is really chessy and has a highschool kind of feel to it. Without offering any kind of specific fix, I do think it is possible to have an exciting introduction with the lights out and music, but done in a classy professional way. Of course, just because I would prefer that doesn't mean everyone does. Some people might like the new stuff. In either case, any intro gets old quickly, I think. They should rotate 3 or 4 different styles of intros.
it's like Rudy T's quote that I heard on the radio yesterday, paraphrased, "you can't make everyone happy, there will always be detractors. When we had Dream, we had people complain about dumping the ball into Dream, now we have a guard oriented offense and everyone complains. You can't make everyone happy" I agree...
I like the new intro with the drums...the glow sticks and the powerdancers... I have to say that I know I was barely able to concentrate on the first half of the game as I was busy filling out 100 ALL STAR BALLOTS! Man I feel cheap and dirty... alot of effort for 4 t-shirts...i feel like I looted the place, then picked up another rockets t-shirt for a ROckets credit card app...heh The game or rather the game AND the crowd were both dead and lame last night. I'm glad we got out of there with a win, but our play was really boring and pathetic. I sure hope that this was only due to the level of play of our opponents, cuz otherwise we're in for a very very RUDE AWAKENING Thursday!
Does anyone ever feel like they are at a Circus at times? This is suppose to be a basketball game. Sometimes I think they forget that. The Rockets are going to have a great run this year. Why can't they focus on that rather than over doing the enterainment. I think they try way too ward.
I was at the game last night with a friend. Section 117. We thought the white screen was kind of lame but really got in to the drums. In the 4th quarter the drummers gave us a free believe again shirt and a autographed drum head for being the loudest through out the game. Thats right autographed by the drum core. It was cool at first then we thought why would we want their autograph and gave it to a little girl next to us. She was happy. We stayed late to give Jason some love when he was being interviewed by Lisa. Yelling his name out giving him his props and some people asked, "why we would do that. Kato should of been in." As some one said above I guess there is no pleasing some people. A little off topic- We are planning to go Friday and buy our tickets at the window . Is that a bad idea since MJ will be there? Blatz
Hey dude I was at the game last night , I did'nt care about all the other silly stuff that was going but, I did check out all of those nice booties that the power dancer's displayed.
I favor live performances over anything canned. I like the High School feel. College and High School arenas are the loud ones. They have spirit. You want that. The professional canned stuff doesn't do it, imo; it just makes the arena artifically loud and, at best, gives you a "wow" feeling of being entertained like an intro to the Double Sound System at a movie theatre..."wow"!!! Maybe because at my high school our fans would pack in at 5,000 jammed into a small arena and it was r e a l l y cold outside and that made it electric, and the band got us rocking. I don't like canned stuff that people say is "professional" because it worked for the Jordan-era Bulls...well, anything would have made that arena loud. The electronic intro's, scoreboards, announcers, pet songs for players...all that is cheesy imo. I love the drums, especially since they play throughout the game. I would had horns, as well, like the Lakers are supposedly doing.
I think the drums are good, but should lead up to player introductions- the player introductions always caught the whole arena when done with the fireworks and music. Also the sheet with the power dancers, clutch and turbo is old already... Why not have the dancers dance in with the drums, turbo come in with an athletic move (again drums playing), and turbo enter right behind them with a dummy of the opponent (again drums playing). Turbo takes the dummy player and does something bad to him... Then drums suddenly stop! And immediately the fireworks take off and the music blares and then the player intros. We could then take the whole show to Vegas.

I think it brings more excitment when they dot he lights out thing, start up with the loud voice pumping up the crowd. I liked the laser lights lighting up the arena, and the rockets logo shinning around the arena. The old classic, with some music, i guess techno in the back. i liked that so much better,.
