I am in the market for a laptop that I can use for both school and gaming. Since my desktop isnt made for gaming I would prefer to have some decent to good game handling on this said laptop. I would think a good laptop built for gaming can handle any school work I throw at it, no? Anywayz, my budget is around 1500 plus or minus a couple hundred and this includes the tax and the probable extra insurance.... I work part time at Walmart so my first thoughts was looking there and they have a Cyberpower computer available. Are they any good? Its a CyberpowerPC Black 17.3" Gamer Xplorer GX9400 Laptop PC with Intel Core i7-2630QM Processor, Blu-ray Drive and Windows 7 Home Premium Any thoughts would help!
If you have a budget of $1500, spend $500 on a school laptop and use the rest to upgrade your computer.
Cyberpower? Good lord, no. I would wait a week for the Black Friday/Cyber Monday deals. Get educated on slickdeals.com, fatwallet.com and notebookreviews.com Bang for your buck is probably going to be Alienware. There are better gaming laptop companies out there, but not with the purchasing power, hence value, of Alienware laptops.
I'm looking for one too. Luckily black friday is right around the corner. Last year alienware sold their popular m11x at about a 30% discount. With your budget you could swing a m14x or envy 14, though the envy's aren't as awesome as they were last year. Asus has really grown in popularity over the last few years too, and probably has a very suitable option for you in that range.
I recommend Asus. I really like my gaming rig I got over the summer. I went with the 17" screen so I could see the game better, but I now wish I had gotten the slightly smaller version, because the machine itself is pretty big. Other than that, it is the best computer in a house full of computers.
I like several others here highly recommend an Asus laptop. For $1500 you can get a very nicely equipped one that should work well for games. Additionally they always come with a year of accidental damage on their warranty. Sometimes even an additional year for registering. That alone will usually run you $300+ extra with another company.
Asus gaming laptops are the best bang for your buck imo. Large screen, great video card options and built very well. You can't go wrong with choosing a ROG Asus or any asus gaming laptop.
Let me ask this, do these Asus or Alienwares come with a port to hook up a bigger monitor? Or is that something additional?
I do like Asus overall. No experience with their gaming laptops, but I'm sure they're solid. Every gaming laptop I've seen over the past few years has a video out port. HDMI and DVI are essentially the same, just different form factors. Check out http://www.notebookreview.com/ for really good reviews and discussions on laptops.
If you mean a dock then I don't think alienware has them nor do I believe Asus would. If you mean just a VGA or HDMI out to hook up to external monitors or TVs then yes VGA ports are a standard and HDMI out ports are now the norm.
Yeah I just want to maybe once inawhile plug up to my bigger screen. So next question, assuming I did that, with the value of the laptop I plan on getting would that distort the image/graphics? i heard of people playing games on their 40 inch tv and graphics was just as good on your normal 20"s
Depends on both what game you're running and how strong the graphics card is in your laptop. I'm looking at the m11x from alienware, and it's popular enough that I can find out what games can run on what resolution on what size tv, because someone's already done it.
I have Alienware m9750 with geforce 8700m GT (bout 4 years old). It's nice and all but I just want to warn you about getting a gaming laptop because the video cards tend to get little support from either alienware or nvidia. By support I mean driver wise. Just suggesting you research the card that's going to be in the machine and make sure there are plenty of well updated drivers out as well as if there's any complaints about problems with the card around the internet. I should still be able to play new games on my system (not on max settings, but still) but I can't because the graphics driver crashes uncontrollably on any game with decent graphics that's come out in the last 5-6 years. And believe me I've spent hours trying driver after driver. Just something to think about, good luck.
Again it depends on many things like which game, resolution, size of the external monitor, etc. But it's only 11" so there will be limitations, since the gpu is high powered when relatively paired up with an 11" display.
