On Veterans Day I'd just like to say that Darwin Australia was the closest thing to America my Dad saw between 1942 and 1945 (3 freaking years!). It was their R&R respite from New Guinea and it had beer. He loved those people
Well, the lack of enemies trying to kill him was probably a factor as well, no? Anyhow, Obama is wrong to do this. Our soldiers signed up to defend American, not to spend their lives in this penile colony.
They will not be opening a new base. There is ALREADY an American base there but does not currently have Marines. It houses about 4500 servicemen/women and can really only take a few hundred more. So stop sensationalizing. http://www.heraldsun.com.au/news/more-news/us-bases-in-australia-ruled-out/story-fn7x8me2-1226192976456 http://au.news.yahoo.com/thewest/a/-/newshome/11574680/no-us-base-for-darwin-smith/
I am confused why people see to think the Military wants to be within our own borders. I am currently in Okinawa and have been for 3+ years and LOVE being outside America! I have worked side by side with thousands of troops from all 4 branches......and a large majority that have lived overseas love it. This talking point just does not add up and people really need to let it go......
This would be an economic boon to Darwin. Assuming an American base is eventually built, I wonder what might be based there. Possibly an Expeditionary Strike Group. That would make it a major installation (and pretty popular, I'm guessing). The location is outstanding.
