It's been almost a week when I went to the doctor and they told me I have TMJD (temporo-mandibular joint disorder). They told me mostly occurs in older people (I'm 18) which they said is pretty young to have it. I was given some medication to ease the pain and if it still hurts in 1-2 weeks to call a dentist who specializes in TMJD. I was just curious (if anyone is a dentist, knows about it, or have it) if there is anything else I could do to ease the pain more.

What kind of pain do you experience? Afaik, they normally give a mouthpiece to correct your bite then fix it through braces.

I'd be skeptical. It's a pretty common BS diagnosis, one that a doctor that specializes in will see everywhere and happily charge to treat.

Get more than one opinion, from a slightly different specialist if possible.

Yeah, like migraines. Sure, there can be very serious reasons for migraines with expensive diagnosis, but Steve Francis went through batteries of tests and several clinics before someone told him, "Hey, you eat too much fried food."

My wife had it - we think it was actually caused by her getting braces as an adult - the braces moved her jaw into somewhere that didn't work with her physiology. She's over it somewhat - but she can't eat hard or crunchy foods or the pain will come back.

Try to avoid eating foods that are difficult to chew.

Any other issues elsewhere? Knee, hip, shoulder, etc? There's fascial connections that run up to the jaw and sometimes TMJD symptoms are caused by fascial issues.

For this connection, they run up the masseter muscle, which closes the jaw, and also into the temporalis, which i believe also helps close the jaw.

Funny you should mention it. I'm currently on my 27th year of trying to get a good diagnosis for migraines and Meniere's.
(one of which was TMJ) At least now my docs just say,f**k it, we don't know, but let's see if this helps.

Yeah, I'm starting to second guess it. Pills and massaging it helps a lot and doesn't hurt too much now, only problem now is if I have a big yawn, it feels like my jaw pops out of place.

Dude, I'm dealing with this. It's no fun.

You might have to just go see a specialist, but look before you leap. They charge out the a**.

You'll have to go to a soft diet, learn how to deal with your stress (so you clench your jaw less). There are specialists who provide excellent massage of the facial muscles when it gets really bad.

But if this is a severe case, you can't avoid seeing someone better trained to deal with all this. Most regular dentists don't know squat.

I had The MJD but traded him for Dwayne Bowe on week 7. Lateral move but decent because I was thin at WR.

My gf thinks she has that, but she's a hypochondriac. She said the way to fix that is they have to break your jaw, reset it, and you'll have your mouth wired shut for a month, liquid diet only.

I think she is just using that as an excuse to get out of giving bjs.

In all seriousness, I have been dizzy (constant rocking sensation like I'm on a boat) for going on 17 years now. TMJD has been considered a couple of times but they still don't know what the hell is wrong with me.

A broad amount of pathologies are encompassed in TMD. Did the doc just tell you that the pain you are experiencing is TMD or did he give you a cause of the TMD?

Does your jaw pop/click/sound like crackling paper? Have you ever been locked open? Did you hear a loud pop one day and then it began hurting?

Several months before I went to the doctor the only problem was a a light pop on my right jaw. Then 2-3 weeks ago it worsened to if I were to chew for a while my right jaw would tighten to a close and now its constant pain, but its feeling a lot better with the inflammatory pills.

Have I done the work for you. Go see my Otolaryngologists in Houston and start Intratympanic and Round-Window Steroid Injection Therapy. Latest thing, high success rate, easy medical logic, costs your insurance company about $3500. Sounds bad but you don't feel anything.

I'm a hard core tinnitus and it hasn't fixed that, but the fullness and a lot of the dizziness is gone and it really doesn't matter what the cause is.

Steroids, is there nothing they can't do?
