I think Afro Blue needs to win it. They have some serious talent. I'm really a big fan of Ben Fold's advice. He usually has some seriously good stuff to say. Shawn Stockman's reactions are hilarious. When he really likes something he just has the greatest facial expressions. I'm also really glad that Sara Bareilles is there instead of Nicole Scherzinger. I always felt that she had nothing really good to say.
Tall black guy. He might be the only person in any of the groups remaining whose name I actually know. That's how much of a standout he has been for me.
He's a cutie and talented... but the songs they choose utilize more of the curly mopped guy They need to showcase his singing ability more.
I thought the Yellow Jackets, Collective and North Shore were better but I do like them. They are a very interesting group imo (which is the main reason why they have outlasted the other three imo). They bring a different element to the competition. Their rapper is the star for sure. The girls have talent but not very consistent (they were great in the Rihanna medley but not so much in the previous performances). Also that black guy with the mohawk seems pretty legit as well. Their rhythm section seems solid. They aren't great or mind blowing, probably won't win it but very solid. Idk tho. I think they are good but their last few song choices have been questionable. They have potential for sure (their first couple of performances were outstanding).
Wow, that was really a fresh joke... They are my least favorite group still left. The rapping is kind of a copout, IMO. They use it to cover up their vocal weaknesses. North Shore was one of my favorites. Their old school doo-wop style was really refreshing to listen to. Showing the kids how it's done. But ultimately, they just weren't versatile enough. You have to be able to do all musical styles to go far in a contest like this, so as great as they were at what they did, they were pretty much doomed from the get-go.
I was expecting them to go far like Jerry Lawson did last season but as talented as they are, they just are not highly popular with the general public for that reason which you stated.
The fact that North Shore was on the show at all was a HUGE reason why I fell in love with Sing Off. American Idol would NEVER have put 50-60 year old dudes on their show, no matter how great of a singer they were. Having North Shore on the program at all went a long way towards proving to me they are actually interested in find the BEST acapella group, and not just the one with the pretty girls or the edgiest looks.
Thank goodness! I am sorry but I've been wanting Delilah to go since they butchered Flashdance... how they could butcher that song I have no idea... at any rate only the lead singer sounded good on their songs tonight - and they messed up a song that is very emotional for me. At any rate... Pentatonix is still my favorite... though Afro Blue and the Aires both improved in my opinion tonight - did ya notice how much Michael (thank you I know his name now) was in the spotlight in both their numbers... smart move! I think someone here might have said they should highlight him more... oh yeah... me! I am thinking next week it's the Aires or Urban Method that are eliminated.
Not sure if anyone is still watching or not. Was very happy that Afro Blue was kicked off last night, finally. They were in the bottom two the previous two weeks as well and both times a group was kicked off that I thought was better (although admittedly Delilah had had some rocky patches throughout the show...I just thought they were way more talented overall). I was super pissed last week when Vocal Point was kicked off instead of Afro Blue after the absolutely stellar performance they did on "Every Little Step" which might have been my favorite performance by anyone all season. At this point I definitely want Dartmouth Aires to win, although Urban Method has improved so much over the course of the season it wouldn't bother me that much if they took it all. Pentatonix is also incredibly talented and do some really interesting things but I feel like they are too limited by virtue of the fact there is only 5 of them. Anyway, I went ahead and sent in 10 votes for Dartmouth Aires to win. We'll see what happens in a week.
Afro-Blue's performances in this last show was their best of the whole series imho. So I was sad that they had to go. I put my votes in for Pentatonix... though I have to say Urban Method sounded much better this week! Do you know how many singers were in Boyz to Men? < 5 Having five members has not stopped them during this show, having five members isn't going to limit them when they record either!
Yeah all four of them were really good. Imo Pentatonix, Aires and Afro Blue were the best three throughout the entire competition. Kinda ****ty that Afro Blue couldn't make it to the final. While I really do like the Aires (they were a lock for the final after the Queen performance imo), I think that Pentatonix is just on another level. Even if they somehow bomb the finale, they still deserve to win imo. They are just that good.
Sure it won't hurt them in the recording studio. But for that matter a single person could make themselves sound like 20 in a recording studio with enough time and equipment. Plus added instruments. But this competition is an acappela one so that's how I judge it. Pentatonix is doing great things with only 5 people, but overall it seems to limit the power they can generate on any given song. Just my opinion.
I don't notice it. Care to provide an example? Imo, their rhythm section is so strong (along with strong vocals) to the point where they are able to generate the power required for a great performance anytime (despite their size, they are able to generate more power than any other group in their competition because of their rhythm section. There is a reason why they are the only group to not be in the bottom two at any time). Imo, every one of their performances have been just very different and sound great.
I don't know, I really liked Afro Blue and was sad to see them go. I think they, along with Dartmouth Aires, are the 2 best groups. That last Sam Cooke song AB did was pretty amazing. The big ending when they finally brought out some gospel...that was awesome. They should have been doing that all season long, but the judges kept telling them they were too complicated, which I didn't get at all. Basically telling them to dumb down their performances. I think Urban Method should have gone home. They still rely too much on their rapper. It's an a capella competition, not a rap competition. I think the fact that Penatonix only has 5 people actually plays in their favor. They still manage to get a big sound with just the 5 of them. And only 1 girl. That's pretty impressive. I'm not really a huge fan of their style, though. Futuristic a capella? No thanks. I prefer a more traditional sound. Darmouth Aires are great, but they have an advantage having that many people. I also think their performances are too over the top and theatric. The judges really love their lead singer, and he's really good...but maybe a little too Broadway musical for my taste. I'd like to see him sing with a little more soul. I will miss Afro Blue but will pull for DA.
Anybody watch the finale? Spoiler I wasn't too surprised Penetonix won. I can't imagine buying an album made by a 16-member all male a capella group. Their act is more suited for a Broadway show. I can totally see Penatonix staying together and recording an album. I'm glad Urban Method didn't win. None of their girls are strong enough to sing lead and again.....quit relying on the rapper. Being a big Ben Folds Five fan, I loved the number he did with the Aires. Just wish he would've brought his piano out though.
