It's just business, and Jordan loves to compete, he made far more $$$ outside the NBA than he did playing. The players are getting all butt hurt over a business negotiation. So sorry Charlie, MJ is right. DD
Sorry to burst your bubble but dream is just as cut throat as jordan. He bilked the city of houston out of millions on useless land. Basketball arena unlike other stadiums have pretty good occupancy rates so those service people will be ok. Well actually they wont as they are making close to minimum wage so they probably aren't ok to start with. A lot of these of these owners are too leveraged so we will see how they endure the lockout. The owners are locking the players out not the other way around. I don't know why there is such a pro owner mentality from the fans. They get the fans to build them palaces with very favorable terms. They will use their teams to make money. If you don't think this teams make money why did the warriors go for 450mil when they were supposedly worth 363mil? This isn't a player strike the owners aren't honoring the contracts that were already signed.
So MJ's gonna be Devil-in-a-Jesus-costume for Charlotte, for Memphis, for Indiana, all those small-market teams? Too bad for him. This thing will probably all even out at 50-50 BRI.
These players would have never gotten 57% if not for Larry, Magic, and Jordan, not to mention Dream and Shaq. Those are the stars who made the NBA, but the last two generations of players have been doing everything they can do destroy what they had no hand in building.
I'm LMAO at all these people whinning about Jordan being cutthroat when it comes to his money...what did you expect?
I agree. Sure, this is all about money, but the owners are really trying to bring in better competetive balance, and the players want no part of it. So if the owners want to shut it down, fine. If the players aren't willing to budge, fine, but I still believe the last CBA sucked and this one isn't likely to be any better for the game.
Jordans NBA earnings pale in comparison to his endorsement earnings. He was able to buy an interest in an NBA team because he was a money maker off the court.
Perhaps Clutchfans is made up of people feel it's their duty to donate their hard earned cash to the needs of multi-millionaire strangers? I feel like I'm the lone exception in thinking that if I put my life earnings into an NBA team, I would want to do everything possible to earn a lot of money from said team. And less concerned about some NBA player crying that he can only get $5 mil on his paycheck instead of $6 mil.
So the owners come out with 50% BRI for players and people agree with it. Then, reports come out that they would prefer 47% BRI for player. Now, Jordan says 37% BRI for players and people say he's right. Just, curious. What % is too low for it to be considered "fair" to you guys?

I entertained no delusion that Jordan bought into the Bobcats with money made in other ways than his basketball salary. But you don't see any irony in how much his "brand" benefited from a large market team thanks to a soft cap being allowed to substantially exceed the salary cap?
This. MJ was ridiculously underpaid compared to the current so called "superstars" of today. Nevertheless, the players today owe so much to him for being incredibly overpaid.
MJ doesn't owe crap to the current generation of players. I don't why they are complaining, players like Melo and Wade are making money off the Jordan brand shoes. I'm sure MJ is thinking that the player's salaries have gone overboard. yeah MJ got paid $33 mill during his last seasons, but 6 rings, MVPs, and sold arenas everywhere, he was underpaid. Some of these players now are overpaid can't even lead their teams to a playoff victory.
I can't stress this enough, I do not think Jordan is the best basketball player to play the game. In a second I would take Magic, Bird or Dr. J in their prime over Jordan. But that's neither here nor there. But that list should shut up any current player(s) who thinks they will be underpaid under any new CBA. Jordan in 1990 made 2.5M, that's less than Raymond Felton made in his rookie year.....Inflation has not caused prices to rise 10X what they were 20 years ago. Stephon Marbury, who hasn't played in the NBA for years pulled in over 150M in career earnings, Jordan comes no where near that. Antoine Walker pulled in close to 110M. Jordan is well aware of what he was paid for being far and away the best player in the league, as someone in control of a franchise he can try and change this.
Jordan has always been known for being a cheapskate. He’s a notoriously bad tipper and he’s a notoriously bad and cheap owner for giving away players like Chandler and Wallace because he didn’t want to pay them anymore. If I were the players I would hate him now too. I've been mostly on the owners side through all this, but Jordan is being way too extreme. Saying they only deserve 37% is ridiculous, and what happened to what he was saying in ’98? “If you can’t make a profit, you should sell your team.” Sell your team then, you hypocrite!
you guys do realize the 37 is jordan and the owners playing business negotiation games. That is just a bargaining scheme to make the 50 look better and make it happen. That said, the only reason any of the players sniff the salaries they do is because what Jordan did to the game in his era. He was underpaid, maid mostly less than 3 million a year every year except two. And those two years he maid 30 million, at that time he was a living legend, sold out every game, jersy, smiply himself, he easily bought in the revenue and the wins by himself to earn that salary. Now nick young and paul george who are decent and making more than MJ made in most of his years yet they still don't sell jerseys or bring in revenue expect him to say they deserve more than he did? please...
