Lets just say that they have a better shot at losing 105 games than 90 games.... Man that lineup is TERRIBLE... that is worse than the old Orioles line up from a decade ago. Possible that we will have a line up without a single above replacement player on it.... OUCH.
I think Martinez and Lee will be good. Outside of that, I'm blindly hoping Paredes picks up where he left off, and Altuve/Castro/Schafer improve on what they've shown at the big league level.
A lot. Juan Pierre's offensive game is ridiculously similar to Bourn's. The biggest difference is that Juan Pierre almost always put the ball in play, which has allowed him to have consistently high averages, while Bourn strikes out too frequently. In 2010, Juan Pierre led the majors in stolen bases, while being successful 79% of the time.
76(of 182) on Yahoo's FA tracker. Juan Pierre, OF: At 34, could see backup duty for the first time in his career. No longer a potent stolen-base threat (caught stealing a major league-leading 17 times this year) and still a defensive liability. This
I'm not sure he isn't still a base stealing threat. Everything went wrong with the White Sox last year. Like I posted earlier, he was a great base stealer in 2010. Maybe last year was a fluke, or maybe he is just suffering from aging. Either way I don't have interest in him because he doesn't belong in CF, especially in MMP.
What's depressing about this statement is that the White Sox weren't the ones who won 56 games last year.
Maybe just suffering from aging....and he isn't getting younger! Pass on him(and any other (aging) vets). I thought we were past the Pedro Feliz, Ivan Rodriguez, Kaz Matsui, Mike Hampton stage but maybe not. Those guys serve no real purpose on a team like this, right now. I mean, there isn't anyone else to stick in CF? (Edit: Don't want to put blame on Ed Wade/the Astros yet, as this is only speculation right now but hope they pass on something like this.)
I don't really mind signing veteran guys for cheap that we have a desperate need for. It is the signing veteran guys who weren't that good even in their prime when we already have somebody to play that position. Signing Pierre is stupid because we have OFs. Signing Feliz for a ridiculous $5 million when Chris Johnson could have played the spot was stupid (but we got Dan Carpenter out of it). Signing Brett Myers was brilliant. Re-signing him wasn't. We should offer arbitration to Barmes. If he declines, we should look for a veteran willing to take a one-year deal $1 - 2 million, because we need a SS, and maybe we get lucky and we can trade them.
He seems redundant with Jason Bourgeois at this point, and if Jordan Schafer isn't suspended for the full season, all he would do is take away Schafer's at bats.
Smh... please don't sign him. The Astros need to move past this whole signing over-the-hill players thing they've been stuck in the past five years.

which isn't abysmal by any means. a bit below average, but not horrible. Last year, only 20 guys in all of MLB were over .375 OBP.
I'm sorry Jugdish -- I'm not in any way arguing we should sign the old stiff. He was never a good CF, and you are correct that he does not have the offense one would expect from a LF. I was only pointing out that one reason for the high number of outs is the increased number of PAs. Earlier in his career, he was decent (but not great) lead-off hitter. Not so much any more.
