If the Cards win it, Nelson Cruz is the goat, he should have caught that fly ball in the 9th, he got lazy and didn't hustle back, disgraceful effort there. DD
Agreed. He definitely shied away from the wall when instead he should have gone through that damn thing. I mean, it's the last out and you win the World Series after that. The wall should have been the last thing on his mind.
On the field delivering... 1.065 OPS... drove in 6 of our 14 runs. He showed up. Probably not the answer you were hoping for...
Makes me proud of my old home town St. Louis. No reason to go back after I joined my family who moved to Texas while I was in college. Go Cards. I've tried, but just can't root for the Astros over the Cards even after 30 years.
It's funny that this thread doubled in pages after Game 6. Can't I root for the Rangers since they have never played one game in Dallas?
htownrox....please change ur screen name. its disgusting me that you have that screen name and are cheering for a dallas team. thanks.
Keep in mind he's screen name refers to the Rockets. It's a Rockets fan forum and I take it he's a Rockets fan and he doesn't have to be a fan of the other Houston sports teams. But yeah, he needs to pipe down on the Astro's comments. Not very classy.
Really glad the Cards pulled that epic game out...to think that Dallas could be the next 'Title town' ugh, that's disgusting.
It's just sports. I think a lot of us think the Rangers have turned into a model franchise. You just come off as kind of a dick and a lot of us are rooting for the Cardinals as a result. Question: why aren't you a Mavericks fan?
I watched the whole game, champ. Just because the game wasn't played to "your standards" doesn't mean that there aren't other baseball fans that thought it was a great ballgame.
Hey there... didn't mean anything harsh by it. It was certainly dramatic... and if drama = great baseball, it was great baseball. Still doesn't change the fact that it was a sloppy (guy gets picked off of third in a tie game!), error-filled, bad defensive miscue in the 9th inning, and terrible managing in the 10th inning type of game. Washington really deserves more blame. You get a two run lead again (after just blowing one against the Cards best hitters who have now already batted in the lineup), you have the BOTTOM of the lineup up, your closer didn't throw a whole lot of pitches, and threw plenty of strikes... wasn't wild at all... and you take him out for Darren Freakin Oliver (who could have been saved to turn Berkman around if needed.) Unbelievable.
Hoping the Rangers kick their ass tonight. One thing to remember when Carpenter takes the mound: he wouldn't be available for Game 7 if not for his franchise pushing to call a game in which it didn't even rain. Says everything there is to say about the "integrity" of the St. Louis Cardinals. I don't buy much into the momentum argument either. As I'm sure has already been mentioned here, see the 2005 NLCS. Momentum is only as strong as your next game's starting pitcher. Here's hoping Matt Harrison does his job and shuts down STL for good.
If that's the case, the Cards have the clear advantage... as Carpenter on 3 days rest is much better than Harrison who was rocked in game 3 already. I also don't fault them for postponing the game... and it was MLB's (specifically Joe Torre's) decision, not St. Louis'. If the Rangers have a competent manager who actually was used to MANAGING games (which you don't have to do much of in the AL), this series is over.
Cruz definitely choked on that fly ball. It was almost like he was afraid to run into the wall of fan noise. Hamilton would have made that play 10 out of 10 times imo...even if it meant him getting hurt in the process. Cruz is a big part of why they are in the position they are...but he definitely blew it imo. But, so did Rangers pitching.
Disagree. Far too small of a sample size to judge Harrison by one game. Moreover, if you're going to draw a lot from one game... the last time Carpenter pitched on 3 days rest - in Game 2 of the NLCS - he lasted just three innings and gave up four runs (ERA of 12). Harrison was the clearly superior pitcher in the regular season (better ERA while pitching in the much tougher AL), so I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. As for the "rainout", while MLB technically has the final call... they do it on input from local forecasters and host team officials. Forecasters said the game could easily be played, with rain probability at 50% and essentially calling, at most, for sprinkles. By all reports, it was the Cardinals' officials that countered the forecasters urging "extreme caution". Right.
I don't see any of those reports... did you just make that up? "It was made by Commissioner Bud Selig in concert with Joe Torre, MLB's executive vice president of baseball operations, and Peter Woodfork, MLB's senior VP of baseball operations. Executives from both clubs were included in the process but not in the decision." (http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20111025&content_id=25785396&vkey=news_mlb&c_id=mlb) And I'm pretty sure both teams would rather not have games start and stop and start and stop... thereby wasting pitchers left and right for a game that may or may not go. TV doesn't want that either. Carpenter had not started a game on 3 days rest in a long ass while... something like 300+ innings. He's still the better big-game pitcher than Harrison. Regular season stats/tendencies/performances mean squat right now... playoff baseball is a different sport.
Geez, I can't believe the Rangers didn't pull that out last night. I agree with earlier posts that stated Cruz should have caught that ball that ended up tying the game. SHEESH! Who are the projected starters?
