uh oh, not THE beast ... I better watch what i write, eh? ------------------ I am so exasperated that I could expectorate.
ok, i have to admit, i disagreed with getting Mo Taylor.....but his rebounds really aren't that bad....cause Odom and Olowakandi are really good rebounders......so if he comes here, he'll be the number on rebounder.....with the clips he was 2nd or third option.....another thing, is if he really DOES sign for the exception, then it means he's gonna work hard....it's the only reason he wants to do it.......why else would he sign for the exception?? i'm sure Toronto offered him a hell of a lot more........so, for one year, he's not bad.....an if he turns out better than we thought....we sign him longterm next year...not a bad idea........ ------------------
SIGN MO TAYLOR. He is a drastic improvement from the PF's we have. You are all saying he is lazy (I respectfully disagree), cannot rebound (still better than our PF's), and demands the ball (of course he does, because he can put the damn thing in the basket). He will improve our team, period. Give the guy a new start and a new coach (a good coach) and he will play with heart and desire like he used to when he came into the league. ------------------ HOOP-T ------------------
Note the phrases "without even trying" and "If he plays with some motivation". This tells you all you need to know about Taylor. For me this boils down to the fact that Taylor is a PF that plays more like a swingman, is soft, and is a question to the teams chemistry. I would pass on this dud.... ------------------
It is ludicrous to think that a player can have averages of 17.1 ppg and 6.5 rpg without trying and without motivation. Get real! Did any of you watch him play at all? He can play this game at a high level. Look at his teammates rebounding stats...Kandi, Odom, even Closs. Those guys were the primary rebounding forces on that team. Taylor still managed to average 6.5. SIGN MO TAYLOR. ------------------ HOOP-T ------------------
I can understand the knock on his rebounding and I can understand the "attitude" problem, but what I dont understand is what we have to lose by signing him, it is a one year deal, if he tanks, doesnt play, pouts, any of the above, so what, he is getting the exception, is he is that bad, which I cant imagine he would be, then he is gone in a year, not like we are gonna win the championship, even though we would all like to, I mean I have to back up the argument that his "attitude" and rebounding problems could have stemmed from a lack of wanting to play for the Clips, I mean, come on, who really WANTS to play for Clips, I dont know, I guess you could say, "make the best of a bad situation" but lets be serious with each other, this is the Clips, I mean, I would take a chance on the guy, we really have nothing to lose, I think he is better than any PF we have right now, and I am a huge fan of Kenny Thomas, Mo can score, bottom line, and we could use him, but honestly, I would like to hear what someone has to say, or what you guys opinions are one what we are losing by signing this guy ------------------
I am wondering if you ever watched him play at all. Yeah, he can play this game at a high level, at one end of the court..The def end is another thing. Since when is 6.5 rebs a game for a man of his size a good thing? He should sleepwalk into 8. What of the long term, is there anychance he would stick here anyway? If not then why bother? Does Mo make us championship material? Nope. Are we prepared to offer him the kind of money he is going to ask for after this season? For me, I remember how Charles addition to the team changed the dynamic.(I am not saying good or bad-just different). Same with Quitten. One player can come in and change an entire chemistry if he sulks or dogs it etc. These are things that concern me about Mo. ---------------- [This message has been edited by stringthing (edited August 10, 2000).]
Considering only 24 players in the league averaged 8 rebounds per game (which is an average of less than 1 per team, and the Clippers had 1 of them in Olowakandi, and Odom was close). I'm not sure that him getting at least 8 is quite valid. There are plenty of 6'9'' PFs in the league, and that 24 also included centers. Yes, he's a poor rebounder, but I can see him jumping up his production by 1 per game, if he worked on it. What was his incentive to work on his rebounding last year? So he could play for the 2nd worst team in the league, instead of the worst? Point is, he's better than what we got, and we can get him without losing anything in return, and paying him far below his market value. I don't see him disrupting clubhouse chemistry, he doesn't have the law chasing him, and he vented once on Olowakandi. Would you rather have a guy who's playing on a perennial loser that sugar coats everything? We should take a chance on this guy. Weren't the Rockets also interested in picking up Rodney Rogers after he was leaving the Clippers, but he instead went to the Suns? ------------------ The Serious Police are watching. Lets just say that Mo only get 6 boards a game. I think most of us would love to have a player who gets 10 boards a game. So let me do some math. 10 - 6 = 4 rebounds. Let's say that of those rebounds 50% result in 2 points. More math. 4 rebounds * 50% * 2 points = 4 points. Do you think Mo can make up the 4 point difference? Mo is a 16/6. Would a 23 year old 12/10er make you feel better? Would he sign for the exception? Stop looking. There isn't one. I, like everyone else, would love to see the Rockets get a 20/10er with some killer D. But Drew and an exception is not going to get us that. So lets do what we can to improve the weakest link. Do you really want to watch KT all year jacking up the 3? ------------------ [This message has been edited by ArtVandolet (edited August 10, 2000).]
Hoop T- Explain to me how being against signing The Big MO is equal to being against the Rockets improving. I understand that most Rocs fans are geeked about the possiblity of acquiring new talent and they want to see the Rocs making every attempt to improve, but this guy doesn't fill any of our long term needs IMHO. He will more than likely dis the Rockets in the next offseason for a more "glamour" gig. Where were his two original prefs? Orlando and "Vince-land". What does that say to you? Plus, he has the anti-christ for an agent! What need does he fill for 1 season? NONE! The rockets may improve but what good is a 7 or 8 seed to get creamed by the Lakes? Then he jettisons us for greener pastures and we look like we just got schooled by that scum Falk. And you seem to be putting a lot of faith in Rudy's judgement of his character. Rudy can be fooled you know, i.e Pippen. Just my take... ------------------
Pure unbridled pessimism. You are all kinds of negative, stringthing.....relax! The glass is half full. ------------------ HOOP-T ------------------
stringthing-Do Kenny Thomas or Carlos Rogers fill our long term PF needs? ------------------ The Serious Police are watching. Follow the rules or be assimilated. Shandon is underrated.
Uh, no..but neither are they going to ask for the kind of cash that MO will after this season. For me it boils down to this...If you want to sign MO just to watch him play this year because it makes the season more intresting to watch, then so be it. But if he is not re-signable (I believe he is not)then we gain nothing but 1 years entertainment. While he makes the team better in the short term it is an illusion, since it will most probably be a 1 year band-aid. Plus to me the whole thing stinks of Falk working us to suit he and his clients desires. We were never his first choice and most likely wont be after this season. ------------------
a triple post? impressive. You don't think Mo would feel the tad slightest feeling of happiness if the Rockets are winning, and Mo is loved by all? The Rockets can in fact afford to pay Mo what he wants next year (assuming he earns it). You don't think we'd have the upperhand if he plays here, likes Rudy, likes Steve, and can stay in the exact same situation? Here are some thoughts of Mo from Clippers fans, interesting comments such as "supported teammates while on DL" etc. http://www.hoopsboards.com/boards/showthread.php?threadid=8322&pagenumber=1 This is issue is probably moot. I'm positive that Rudy and CD talked to him about things like if he wants to play here a long time, or if he's just "passing through". If he was just passing through, he'd look to take the exception on a playoff team, go along for the ride, then leave the next year. Who next year would compete with us for Mo? Atlanta? Not after the Lorenzen Wright mishap. Dallas? They'd prefer Webber and already trying to keep Finley. Miami is out of the picture, and if Chicago wanted him, they'd have gotten him this year. ------------------ The Serious Police are watching. Follow the rules or be assimilated. Triple post? As long as you don't start talking to yourself, that's fine with me...some people can't understand this simple concept. ------------------ Draftsource.net
The BBS was acting up when I hit submit...It was not on purpose....Though I figure you guys knew that ------------------
On the contrary, stringthing, I have watched a whole lot of Taylor ever since his days at Michigan. This guy can play, period. Regardless of whether or not he can improve his rebounding skills or desire, HE IS STILL LEAPS AND BOUNDS BETTER THAN WHAT WE HAVE. The Clippers were a poor rebounding team for several reasons. It wasn't just Taylor. Kandi man is a big, strong 7-footer, but what did he average - 8.2. Why are you against improving? He is going to sign a one year deal if he signs with us. Where is the risk here? Chemistry? Do you really have that little faith in Rudy and crew that they would let that happen? What happened to Hamilton when he disrupted it in the slightest? Mo Taylor is going to play for us for well under market value. He is going to come in and prove what his market value really is....he will play well for us. ------------------ HOOP-T ------------------
